ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Colorado Rockies will have a starter in the All-Star Game on Tuesday.
Ace Ubaldo Jimenez was named the starting pitcher for the NL All-Stars on Monday morning. He'll face David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays and a star-studded American League lineup which includes the likes of Ichiro Suzuki, Derek Jeter and Joe Mauer.
"To tell you the truth, I didn't even think about starting the game, I'm just happy to be here," Jimenez said.
Jimenez, who will be appearing in his first All-Star Game, carries a 15-1 record with a 2.20 ERA into the matchup at Angel Stadium. He will try to pace the NL in its attempt to snap a 13-year drought in the midsummer classic.
"This guy is 15-1, he threw a no-hitter, his record speaks for himself," NL manager Charlie Manuel said.
Manuel says it was a tough choice, picking Jimenez over Josh Johnson, but he says Jimenez, whom he described as a "horse," has always stood out to him when the Rockies and Manuel's Philadelphia Phillies have played.
Earlier this season, Jimenez threw the first no-hitter in Rockies history and became the first pitcher in a decade with 15 wins at the All-Star break.
