Giants sign Miguel Tejada ...

A day after losing free agent Juan Uribe to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the San Francisco Giants have agreed to sign infielder Miguel Tejada to a one-year deal worth $6.5MM, according to Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes. Miggy also gets a $500K bonus from the Giants, according to Rojas.

Tejada, 36, batted .269/.312/.381 with 15 HR and 71 RBI last season between the San Diego Padres and Baltimore Orioles.

Good replacement for Uribe. Without the wild swings on the first pitch. Tejada's WAR last year was 1.3, so the money is about right. He's always been a clutch hitter and should be a leader in the clubhouse too.

1. lol another roider for the Giants
Good thing you won something this year- . Tejada is like Arod..makes every team he goes LOSERS....Outside of that he has a horrible attitude and is not a good teammate from what I hear.

2. I believe you made similar "horrible attitude" claims

about Pat Burrell. Boy, that move worked out terribly for the Giants didn't it? You also kept claiming during the playoffs how unimpressed you were with the now World Series Champion Giants and how they were sure to lose in the next round.

As I've pointed out in the past TZ, you appear to be good luck...so please, by all means, keep it up.

4. I've NEVER said a bad word about Pat Burrell

LOVE HIM. I'd take him or Aubrey Huff in a HEARTBEAT for the Nats. But Tejada? I watched him in Baltimore. NO ONE shed any tears when he left town, even though the O's are a bad team. You watch. Enjoy your WS, you just added someone who will make it very difficult to get even close, he's a classic DIVA and the Giants strike me as a franchise that does well as a team, not as a bunch of individual talent.

5. I don't recall the DIVA tag in Oakland
Of course, that was a while ago. He was a fan favorite and everyone was sorry to see him leave. Yes, we'll watch and hope for the best.

8. Baltimore actually was shopping him around
for a long time before ANYONE gave them anything worthwhile to get rid of him. Trust me on this, he's pretty worthless now even though he might hit every now and then. And the diva thing is something that was always there but ignored when he was playing as a MVP. Now that its evident that most of his good years were because of the roids, the attitude has become a larger issue. You can get away with ego if you are good.
I wouldn't want him on my Nats, even though they need offense. He makes a lot of errors too.

6. I don't know about Baltimore..
Auggie is right, he was a fan favorite in Oakland and San Diego, for that matter. Good in the clubhouse too. Seems to me what you're talking about is more an issue with the Orioles than with Tejada. He wouldn't be the first player who soured on that franchise.

If Tejada doesn't work out, and I see no reason why he shouldn't, he's only been signed for one year, no harm done.

3. Even swap for Uribe
This makes signing Renteria seem inevitable. The two can platoon, even if they're both righties.

7. Renteria is an option..
but remember, Tejada is a real iron man. He played in 156 games last year. Even at his age, I don't know that he needs to be platooned. Of course, there are still the threats to send Sandoval to the minors if he doesn't get his weight under control. That might just be talk, but if Pablo continues his struggles of last year, Tejada can play third base, and then the Giants would need a shortstop. That's where Renteria could come in, along with Fontenot, or perhaps Sabean is still looking to trade for someone like Jason Bartlett.

9. Or Mark DeRosa at 3rd -- hopefully.
Renteria gives them a little insurance if the price is right
