1. I followed him a bit when he was a coach in the Pro's
Chicago/Miami, he always struck me as a person who got waaay to much credit for a crushing win against a good opponent, by that I mean, his team would destroy someone, the sports media would pump him up, and then he would lose the next 5 games in a row to chump/below average teams. I didn't follow him much in college, but from what I saw, the same dynamic was in place, he would win a game against a good opponent, media would pump him up, and then he would flop in a lot of games against subpar teams.

2. And to think that there were some folks here favoring Pitt for Big Ten membership.

Pro sports are kings of Steel City. Good recruiting base but it seems they've been just average in that cakewalk they call a conference.

5. You've got to be kidding
Wannstedt has always been savaged by the media, and fans in general. He's an above average coach who has been made out to be the village idiot because fans prefer powder puff offenses. A Mike Leach is heralded as a genius by the same fans who rip Wannstedt. Meanwhile, Leach padded his W/L record with 31 wins against lower division opponents in 10 seasons, non conference scheduling more disgraceful than the Gators. If Wannstedt had taken the same approach he'd have faced Eastern Washington instead of Miami this year, and hosted Massachusetts instead of traveling to Utah. I picked two teams Leach defeated in his best year of 2008. Pitt generally has one soft non conference game per year. Otherwise it's ambitious.

Pittsburgh made the mistake of overachieving the past two years. You better do it again or you're gone.

If Pitt thinks it has birthright to better than a 26-12 record over 3 years, they'll be flipping coaches as dependably as Leach is butchered in road games, 1-18 combined at Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Missouri and Oklahoma State.

I loved ripping Leach even when he's not the topic.

6. Awsi---I've agreed with you on about 100 percents of your posts...
except today--- "He's an above average coach"

Tell me you've been drinking?

For two years I owned a site called FireDaveWannstedt.Com.

The site was easy to run because Wanny gave me amazing daily material to write about.

He's simply the worse coach I've even laid my eyes on.

Oh---and I have many many friends in Chicago who couldn't agree more with me---and now I'm sure I have many in Pittsburgh.

The man set the Phin franchise back years and we're still feeling it's pain.

Awsi---love you dude--- but you're dead wrong on this one.

10. To add to what trumad said...
Wannstedt when he was DC for the Dallas Cowboys, had one of the greatest arrays of players available to him. It was almost impossible for the media to annoint him as a defensive genius. Everything he has done since leaving the cowboys has been marginal at best.

11. Nope, not kidding, I should've added
that the media would turn on him, when he and the team went down the tubes/lost a lot of games. I see the same dynamic with Steve Spurrier currently...this year, he beat Alabama, oh my, oh me, oh gosh, he and the SC must be super good, they are going all the way....

Next week...a loss to who, Kentucky?

I didn't mean to pile on DW here, but the dynamic I have seen from his pro time, appeared to carry over to his college coaching career. But, I fully admit I haven't followed him much in college, but followed him a bit when he was with the Bears.

3. Wannstedt rode the coat-tails of the Dallas Cowboys and Jimmy Johnson...

With the caliber of players in Dallas in the early 90's, he got way too much credit for what happened.

4. We play Pitt in the Bumfuck Bowl on 8 Jan
Wonder if he will coach? Players will get up for their coach when he gets fired or ran off. Could be interesting.

7. It took them too long to pull the trigger, maybe he would be better off in Indiana where they don't
give a damn.

8. Or High School
Honestly the guy should just go to a high school and coach. He stinks as a coach. Let him go somewhere where he can do little damage. Maybe Pee-Wee football might be better for him.

Pitt went 10-3 last year. I think they at least owed him this season.

Our QB Mike Hartline arrested @3:00 am this morning.
"WLEX-TV in Lexington is reporting that Kentucky quarterback Mike Hartline was arrested early Friday morning and charged with disorderly conduct and alcohol intoxication."
Pitt coach fired, UK QB questionable, I would not like making the odds on this game now, we'll see.

Drunk & stupid is no way to go to college although that's what I did.
