A Question About Today's Eagles Giants Game

When Deshawn Johnson scores the go ahead TD, there was no time left on the clock. The game is over, but they still kick the extra point. Why did they do that? There was nothing on the PAT play that the Giants could do to even the score. Why even do it?

Is it nothing more than a concession to gamblers?

BTW, I'm neither a Giants nor Eagles fan.

1. It is required due to some tiebreakers being based on points scored.

So the NFL mandates the XPA so that in some weird scenario where one team loses a tiebreaker to another because of the 1 point differential, there won't be any quibbling over "but the refs didn't let us kick for the point."

So it's fair and even. ANY touchdown scored in OT is only worth 6 pts, whereas ANY touchdown scored in regulation should be given the opportunity to count for 7.

5. I believe the reason is that if that the defense can score on an extra

point (during regulation), though it is worth either one or two points, if they run it back.
