I haven't seen Dallas play a more perfect game since, well, the good ol' days of Jimmy at the helm. I really thought this was my no brainer pick this week.

I'm so torn - I lost 100 bucks, but Dallas looks like a real contender in a mediocre NFC. How am I supposed to feel?

Actually, I did break even this week. I took Colorado (-3) over Texas A&M. There's always next week.

1. hahaha! Dallas a real contender in the NFC?
They're tied for last place of their division! I wouldn't get that excited about their chances for a championship just yet. Dallas played well today, but the win is equally credited to Philadelphia playing below their ability and with a very injured QB. The Eagles are the champs and everyone I know of is expecting them to bounce back and win the division again. If Dallas even comes close to winning the NFC, I would eat TWO pairs of my shoes.

2. "The Eagles are the champs..."
The champs? Of what? The NFC? Do you get a free bowl of soup with that?

There is only one champion in the NFL.

If there's one thing Philly can't stand, it's to lose to Dallas.

5. You brag an awful lot...
Edited on Mon Oct-10-05 05:00 PM by friesianrider
It's true - the Patriots won. LAST YEAR! It is also true that they barely won two of their three wins. Yet by listening to some Patriots fans you'd think they creamed them and totally dominated the game start to finish.

We all know the Patriots were the champions LAST YEAR. This is THIS year and if you listen to anyone impartial (read: sportscasters outside of Boston), they will tell you the Patriots aren't as good as they were last year.

It is interesting that you get so offended at other people putting down the Patriots (like when they got royally spanked last week) but you've felt the need to start entire threads poking fun at other teams just because you guys got a FG at the last possible moment and managed to barely win. With all due respect (and yes I realize this is sports), the lack of humility, veiled - and sometimes overt - insults at other teams and their fans, and constant bragging is just getting a little old.

But what do I know. I'm just an Eagles fan and God knows WE didn't play very good at all last year right? And neither did Atlanta. And of course, neither did Pittsburgh. Because the Patriots are the ONLY team that has any right to brag about anything and everything and every other team in the NFL just sucks compared to the all-knowing Patriots, right? :eyes:

8. Well
I brag because I have been to city-wide championship parades, and seen trophies carried past me by championship teams, four times since 2001.

Philly fans, on the other hand, brag despite failing to accomplish this over and over and over and over again. Philly fans have won nothing - nada, zip, dot, scoreboard, zilch - and yet they brag anyway.

I can understand your intense frustration complicating your thinking processes. It happens. But when the above poster refers to the Eagles as "the champs," a correction must be made. It simply isn't true, and all the bragging and wishing and online sniping won't make it true. You have to win something before you can brag. That's axiomatic.

This is also axiomatic: The Patriots are the champions until some other team hoists that trophy in February. Every day from right now until then, the Patriots are the champions. Perhaps the Eagles will be the team to hoist that trophy. Perhaps not. Right now, however, your team is simply a collection of frustrated also-rans who got beat when the chips were down (thank Andy Reid for that excellent clock management). That's the way it is, and all the big talk won't change that.

Now go find that free bowl of soup.

10. I just don't understand the rudeness, I'm sorry...
Edited on Mon Oct-10-05 08:49 PM by friesianrider
On another thread you insulted me personally, now you're making rude comments about "finding a free bowl of soup." You seem to me to be the epitome of an arrogant and classless fan, yet you bemoan Eagles fans for being classless.

"I brag because I have been to city-wide championship parades, and seen trophies carried past me by championship teams, four times since 2001."

And this is a new year and hun, your Pats haven't been playing all that well. Let me remind you that the Eagles and the Pats have the same record - 3 and 2. On top of that, your two losses were BY MORE POINTS than our two losses were. Your 2 losses to Carolina and San Diego were worse than our 2 losses to Dallas and Atlanta. The Patriots have lost two games by a total of 34 points and won 3 games by a total of 16 points. The Eagles on the other hand have lost their two games by 27 points but won their three games by nearly 50 points.

"Philly fans, on the other hand, brag despite failing to accomplish this over and over and over and over again. Philly fans have won nothing - nada, zip, dot, scoreboard, zilch - and yet they brag anyway."

Excuse me? We've won "nothing"? We are the NFC Champions and we've won our division the last 4 years (I think, it may even be more). How can you say that we've "won nothing?" How absolutely rude and factually incorrect. Do you think the Patriots are the only team to have ever won anything? My God, there are at least 5 other teams in the NFL who could beat the Patriots (and many have beaten the Patriots). I am not negating the fact the Pats won the SB but by talking to you one would think the Pats were 5 and 0 and the only team that matters in the entire league. I am just floored by your arrogance here. I can't believe that given the horrific losses the Pats have had this season you're still putting everyone else down like this.

"I can understand your intense frustration complicating your thinking processes. It happens."

Yet another not-so-thinly veiled insult. I just do not understand why you're being so nasty. Am I disappointed with our loss? Absolutely! But surely you remember your loss to San Diego which was a loss of this calibre...so why not have a little dignity and understanding instead of hurling more insults (many of which are completely untrue)?

"But when the above poster refers to the Eagles as "the champs," a correction must be made."

I believe he/she was referring to the Eagles being the NFC CHamps. With you incessantly bragging anad reminding us, it is impossible for any of us to forget the Patriots are the Super Bowl champs.

"It simply isn't true, and all the bragging and wishing and online sniping won't make it true. You have to win something before you can brag."

Again, we have won out division the last several years and won the NFC Championships last year. THAT is winning a little more than "just something" and you need to stop insisting that the Eagles win "nothing." It just isn't right that you must keep putting other teams and other teams' fans down. We have every right to love our team the same as you.

"Right now, however, your team is simply a collection of frustrated also-rans who got beat when the chips were down (thank Andy Reid for that excellent clock management). That's the way it is, and all the big talk won't change that."

I don't recall you tolerating ANY of that talk after the Pats got spanked by San Diego. YOU were in our position just a week ago, so one would think you'd calm yourself down a bit and have some understanding for fans who just had a difficult loss. I should have known better. Were you "big talking" when you said it was just a bad game for the Pats and they'd bounce back? No, you said it because every team has a bad loss every year. This was ours. We'll regroup, reevaluate and be back.

No offense, but if your tone and attitude is what it means to be a champion, then I sincerely hope my Eagles are never champions. You seem to be the epitome of what a fan shouldn't be, and you're certainly the least graceful winner I've ever seen. For a team that got smacked down at least as bad in two games just as we did, you sure talk a big game...especially when your team has the same record the Eagles do.

Just keep telling yourself you're the best and no one can touch you. Keep saying no team will ever beat the Patriots because the way you guys have been playing lately - trust me doll...someday, probably sooner rather than later, someone will. There are SEVERAL excellent teams in the NFL (including the Eagles) and they at least deserve your respect, but that's just how I feel. When someone else wins that trophy (whether it is us or not) you'd better be prepared to have this same classless, tacky bragging thrown in your face every day of the season, too. (funny, you couldn't even handle mild criticms too well when the Pats lost to SD...) The Eagles lost an awful game this week...but what were you saying to yourself when the Pats lost so badly to San Diego?

Winning gracefully is something you don't seem to be capable of doing, and for that I really feel sorry for you. For someone whose writing I have always really admired, your arrogance and lack of class in this area is a huge disappointment for me.

11. LOL
A Philly fan bemoaning the 'classlessness' of a fan from another town is just...priceless in its irony. Have you seen the jail cell they keep under your stadium? It isn't decorative. Booed Santa Claus lately? Cheered for career-ending neck injuries on any opposing players lately? Michael Irvin would be bent-double laughing at your outrage...if he could bend his neck.

Spare me. Sports is talking smack. If you can't take it, try knitting or something.

PS, where did I insult you personally? Methinks you bruise too easily.

:nopity:

Your obnoxious and classless rants, put downs of other fans, and broad-brushing of certain teams is beyond talking smack. It is downright insulting to other DUers and it is crossing the line. You've already told me in one thread that you "don't need to pay attention to my opinion." Then of course, you felt the need to make the ever-so-witty soup comment :eyes: My God, you act as if no other team's fans can be proud of their teams. The Eagles are the #2 team in the NFL, and if you can't even respect that then why am I expected to respect you? I would expect someone like you woulnd't be showing such juvenile, ridiculous, and embarassing behavior on a public forum - sports discussion or not. It is just plain immature. You seem to only post when you have something rude and arrogant to say, or want to put someone else down. Perhaps should learn some class yourself before you go calling others on it left and right.

And may I add that you don't know ANYTHING about me, except that I used to be a fan of yours until now. I am just floored at how arrogant and tacky your conduct here is. Because of that, please refrain from lumping me into your narrow and incorrect definition of whatever you think an Eagles fan is. Your little and loud complaints about Eagles fans may have bothered me some, but trust me...no one in Philly likely gives a shit what you think.

I really am not interested in furthering this discussion - I have nothing more to say to someone who claims to be so many things they so painfully are not, and someone who cannot even have a sports debate without some very harsh, pompous, and uncalled for attacks on other people just because they aren't New England fans. It is just so tacky and immature - I can't see what you're not understanding about this. With all due respect Mr. Pitt, your character is an astonishing disappointment. You ought to be ashamed of yourself for the way you've acted on here.

Go ahead. You've got the last word. I'm sure you have something incredibly profound to add :sarcasm:

17. LOL!
You're right. A mature laugh, how didn't I know? You are just so mature I don't know how you stand it.

Beating up on people on the internet(s) over a football team who sucks this year and doesn't know you from Adam (and will never know you)...wow, it must just be so incredible to be you right now - the picture of maturity! But truth be told, I'm laughing at myself more than you. It is very pathetic of me to even attempt to have a conversation with someone like you, who was probably not quite the type of individual the high school football team was looking for, so lives vicariously through professional athletes who couldn't give a flying saucer about you or your desperate attempt to cling to their fast fleeting fame.

Hang in there though. I'm sure the Patriots have at least a chance of making the playoffs this year if they try really, really hard.

Okay. I'm really leaving now. As you were! :hi:

4. Actually, it's the best division in the NFC
And there's a possibility that two teams could be a wildcard from that division.

Your team has serious problems. McNabb is very injured, and if he's not there for your boys, ya'll ain't going nowhere.

6. I'm not sure that was the problem...
It was a horrible loss for us (it definitely sucked!). But, every team every year has one horrible loss where their offense and defense both have bad days (just look at the Patriots recent loss). I think this was our horrible loss of the year (and let's hope it's out of our system lol). I'm sorry that we lost to Atlanta as well, but at least it wasn't by this much.

I have nothing but trust in McNabb, Andy, TO, Westbrook, Smith, all of our guys. I am sure we will take our bye week to regroup and rest up for our next game, and be back to playing as a solid team. One game does not a season make :)

19. That's not right, the Eagles were favored by 3
I know because I live in Las Vegas, and I bet on Dallas last week.

The quarrel above was interesting, to say the least. As a fan of neither Philadelphia or New England, I'll point out a few things. First, it's reasonable to conclude the Pats have fallen somewhat. Especially after losing Matt Light and Rodney Harrison. That's the blindside protector and the enforcer in the secondary. As soon as they got hurt vs. Pittsburgh it was obvious those were significant losses, and probably drop the team a notch no matter how great a coach Belichick is. You've got two rookies starting on the OL and the secondary was a comparative problem area to begin with.

Plus, IMO it was a big mistake getting rid of Keith Traylor. He is playing fantastic for my Dolphins. The replacement, Vince Wilfork, is more of an upfield guy than a bulky run stuffer. He would thrive in a penetrating 4-3 with single teaming. But when he's asked to play over the nose and face double teaming, he gets frustrated and buckles, taking plays off. As a Canes fan that was obvious even in college. I'm surprised Belichick missed that. It's the first significant personnel mistake I've seen from him.

The Eagles are a fraud at this point. I bet against them last Sunday because they won at Kansas City via fluke, running the ball only 17 times with something like 60 pass attempts. That is wimpy football and points to nothing but an early exit if it continues. Philly has a laughable 88 rushing attempts in 5 games. Dallas had 46 rushes to Philly's 9. One of my premier systems is to bet against teams the week after they win despite 25 rushing attempts of fewer. Winning with 17 rushing attempts is almost off my charts. I sampled my Excel spreadsheets back to '93 and the examples are so few in that regard my iBook started to chuckle.

Again, it's the Vince Lombardi Trophy, not the Don Coryell Trophy. Belichick will be properly compared to one of those men, and Andy Reid the other.

Never has a game been less indicative of where two teams really stand. But enjoy the victory after getting killed 9 out of the last 10 times, you deserve a break.

20. I Wouldn't Be So Sure About That
Other than a thrashing of the 49ers, the Eagles haven't exactly been setting the world on fire. Falling quickly behind 17-0 for the past two weeks should be a concern for Eagles fans. The lack of a running game is also a problem. They were not able to generate much of a pass rush on the oft-sacked Drew Bledsoe. Maybe the Eagles will put it all together, but, right now, I don't see them as the lock to win the division that they have been in the last few years.

As for my Cowboys, I am still on hold as to how good they may or may not be. This Sunday vs the Giants might tell the tale.
