So, can the Steelers win in Denver as well?
Pro: Denver won because New England beat itself.

Con: They've only beaten two very, very soft teams--Cincinnati and the pathetic Colts.

1. I think they'll have a harder time in Denver
assuming they hold on in Indianapolis. The Broncos aren't soft :)

2. Good point.
Broncos will actually show up to play.

The Colts should seriously disband this team. It ain't never getting near the Super Bowl.

Bunch of wimps.

5. As long as the referees decide to stay out of it.
Then they have a fair chance. They were almost robbed today and NE was robbed last night. Hopefully they'll have a competent crew officiating the game.

17. The Zebras can't even get the correct call made after watching it ..
over and over on instant replay. It just seems like it gets worse every year. The perennial Raider fan has known for years that your team has to beat the refs and the other team

That was silly mistake to be mentioning them but thanks for reminding me of the pain anyway :banghead:

Here is to Al Davis going into spontaneous combustion and the team being able to find a real coach :toast:

22. Yeah, re:"beating the refs"
Are the Raiders aware that doesn't involve bike chains?

The Raiduhs openly flaunt their contempt for the rules and cheapshot tactics and then complain they are the most penalized team in league.

It may be great marketing for the open air meth lab know as the Black Hole, but it's hamstrung the Silver and Black for years.

13. They should have. The Colts are a BAD team in the playoffs.
There's a reason Tony Dungy has never won a Super Bowl--his teams don't show up for big games.

They get better every game they play. No one thought they'd beat the Colts today and they did in spite of the bad calls.

Anyone who discounts the Steelers is foolish.

16. Run the ball often, pass the ball well
Of course the Steelers have a great chance. They led the league in BOTH statistical categories I consider most vital, number of rushing attempts and yards per pass attempt. That's an extremely rare quinella. Roethlisberger averages a phenomenal 8.9 yards per pass attempt, far above Manning in 2nd place at 8.27. In fact, Roethlisberger averaged the same 8.9 as a rookie, BY FAR the best opening two years of any pro quarterback.

And proof that I don't pay enough attention to my own stats because I didn't bet on the Steelers today.

The problem, of course, is the situational aspect. Pittsburgh figures to be less sharp in a 3rd straight road game and against a physical balanced opponent that may be magnified. But at least they hosted the regular season finale. Carolina will actually be on its FOURTH straight road game next week.

18. Denver really only had to show up to the Patsy game...
I totally agree with you: they practically handed the game to them. I wasn't that impressed by the Denver offense, so it will definitely be a good game.

The Colts are a good team, but they played pretty bad this weekend. If anything though, it will be a huge morale boost for the Steelers.

19. The Colts are a great team
But the Steelers are an even better team that left most of what they had on the field. This Pittsburgh was almost the same team that went 15-1 last season. If two or three calls that could of went the other way during the season and they might of been 14-2 also. The idea of familiarity breeds contempt was at work here. Pittsburgh knew who these guys were already from when they got pounded earlier in the year by them. The sports world was calling out the Pittsburgh team and writing them off as has beens. The only problem with all of that is that team from last year showed up and handled business. I don't know why that is such a surprise to anyone. Denver should prove to be more difficult, that Denver team was built to handle a smash mouth team like the Burg. It should be a no finesse game with just good football this coming sunday

23. The wheels on the bus go round and round
round and round...

I used to hate the Steelers, but I like Detroit's own Jerome Bettis so much, that I'm rooting for them. What a great guy he is. He's investing money in the city of Detroit helping to rebuild neighborhoods with affordable housing for struggling families. I heard he's done a lot of that in Pittsburgh too. It's nice to see a wealthy athlete give back to the community so much.

25. Steelers can beat the Broncos
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 06:43 PM by RamboLiberal
Big Ben will play well I believe. And I think the Steeler's defense may force Plummer in to some mistakes. And this time after being chastised the refs will be on their toes to make sure the calls are correct. And after seeing the almost disaster with the Bus I can bet all the Steelers will be hanging on to the ball.

I'm still glad we didn't lose over that horrible job by the refs, especially the non-interception call!

Remember Steelers were 11-5 in the regular season and were only a wildcard because the Bengals with same record had a better conference record. And the Steelers lost a couple of those games cause Big Ben was hurt.

26. It would be a miracle
They are too inconsistent. They could win against just about anyone if they play like they did on Sunday, but that was probably their best game of the year. I'd be shocked if they managed to play that well against anyone else this year.

29. No, they cannot win in Denver
Denver has never lsot a home playoff game in 25 years...And, Steelers can't win 3 in a row on the road, all playoff games.

Big Ben is too green for this stuff ---- And I give coaching edge to Denver.

30. If they follow the Pats game plan, minus the five fumbles, yes.
The Pats held the vaunted Denver running game to 98 yards, and 18 of those came during garbage time at the end. We did everything we needed to do to beat them, but put the ball on the ground five times.

Stop the run, blitz Plummer, let Big Ben do his thing, and yes, they can win.

Bettis is going to PLAY LIKE MAD after nearly blowing it last week. Atonement, baby.

33. I believe there's truth to that...
...whole issue of the altitute. I remember someone mentioned the Patriots only arrived in Denver around 24 hours before the game, and most people need 48 hours (at least) to adapt to the altitude.

Let's hope Pittsburgh doesn't take any chances with that - hell, it can't hurt to play it safe.

34. I know how true that is...
When I gratuated high school 10 yrs ago, my grandmother took me out to Denver to meet family. One family had a german shepperd that loved to play. Well the 1st day out there, after 5-10 minutes (maybe less), i'm sucking major wind and during that time I was in very good shape as i played football and basketball in high school. But by the end of the week, I was playing around with the dog the whole evening and never once got tired.

they've allowed a lot of points in the third and (especially) the fourth ... most of the time, though, they had big leads built up and it didn't matter.
