Sports broadcasters you'd most like to see sent to another planet...
Edited on Sat Oct-14-06 08:33 PM by marmar
For me, it's Joe Buck, Lee Corso, Brent Musburger, Al Michaels and the entire Fox ALCS/NLCS pregame crew. I can't stand any of them - for unique reasons. Some are as dumb as a box of rocks (Buck), some are dumb as a box of rocks and suck (the Fox people), some are annoying beyond all reason (Corso), some have outlived their usefulness (Musburger), and some are erudite Repug assholes (Michaels).
Who's your least favorite?

3. Fucking Joe Buck killed the 'Leon' ads.
How'd he worm his http://www.thephatphree.com/features.asp?StoryID=3061&SectionID=2"> assclown self into that? Probably just like he weasled his way into everything else.

He takes the piss out of everything he touches.

after his 2002 trashing of the Twins/Metrodome in Game 1 of the 2002 ALCS.

4. Lemme see...
Chris Collinsworth (loudmouth punkass former Bengal), Jim Rome (the king of the Pregnant Pause), Bill Walton (mushmouthed oaf), Tim McCarver (got what was coming to him from Deion Sanders), Trev Alberts (Cornhusker blowhard), Mike Lupica, Skip Bayless. I'm sure I'll think of others.

6. Musberger
He has some long standing animosity toward the University of Michigan that I can't understand. He is always so prejudiced against us.

7. He openly roots for the stories they've decided are important.
In the 1986 Cotton Bowl, all we we heard was how Bo Jackson would run roughshod over our poor, overmatched Texas A&M team. Final score, A&M 36, Auburn 16. Bo Jackson stoned 4 times from the 1. I haven't been able to stand him ever since.

He about ruined the World Cup for me...

9. He gets down on Michigan every chance he can get
Was lobbying so hard for a helmet to helmet call on Alan Branch last night when even his partners, Davie and Herbstreit (a former QB!) said it was a clean hit. Musburger wouldn't let up on it; kept asking for the replay over and over.

He loves Michigan State so much that my sister refers to him as Brent MSUburger. I swear, the guy wanted to marry Jeff Smoker.

I hate that term. It's what the jail is called. I liked it when Keith Jackson called it "The Big Bowl".

18. Funny thing about Brunt Messburger...
Way, waaaaayyyyy back in the late '70s when the Sonics were playing the Washington Bullets for the NBA championship, all us Sonics fans were convinced Musberger was a die-hard Bullets fan. Then word filtered back from the east coast that Bullets fans were positive he was cheering for the Seattle. It takes a special talent for an announcer to make a 30-year career out of convincing fans everywhere he's rooting against their team.

As for the topic of this thread: John Madden, Chris Berman - loud, over-rated, language-mangling buffoons. And as a fan of soccer and women's basketball, I'd like to invite Jim Rome to fuck the hell off.

10. I thought he was biased against Penn State last night
All he and his pals could talk about was the huge erections they were getting anticipating a 1-2 OSU-Michigan matchup at the end of the regular season. I was like, hello, your employers flew you out here to call a football game. It's going on right now. On that big green rectangle down there.

Maybe the reason nobody likes Musberger is that he's so interested in everything *except* what's happening on the field.

14. Al Michaels tops my list
For incompetence, Dan Dierdorf.

For emphasizing the obvious and pretending it's unique opinion, the moron Jim Rome.

In that same regard, oldtime mention goes to Merlin Olsen. "It's 3rd and 10. This is a big play, Dick. If they don't make this, they'll have to punt."

Terry Bowden would have given Corso a run for the money as far as my least favorite sports commentator if he was still doing games for ABC.

Blech.

20. joe buck
talks way too much and is an embarrassment to the memory of his father, who was a class act.

Why fox put him on the pregame Sunday Football show makes no sense; and if it weren't for a payraise, J. B. probably wishes here were back at Fox.

21. Who ever was the color guy on the USC Az.State game
Apparently the ASU coach had two downs from third down to make the first then didn't and needed to punt it (with 1:58 left) then probably shouldn't have then definitely shouldn't have because they ran out of time to get a play off.

According to who ever that "expert" was.

22. Brent MSUburger, and Lou "Who are the Tigers?" Piniella
He can't even get the Tigers' names rights - referred to Curtis Granderson as Ganderson. Of course, I've felt personal animosity towards him ever since a woman reporter asked him, after a Mariners' game, about the pitch count, and his response was, "What do YOU know about the pitch count, young lady?"

Also, I think Chris Spielman is pretty bad. I like Dierdorf.

28. I've heard Berman do baseball games
And boy what a RedSox bias he had! The Chisox were in the process of blowing away the bosox and poor old Berman just couldn't deal with it. But, when the series was over, he admitted that he was a RedSox guy. That is inexcusable for a national announcer.

34. Funny Berman story from his college days
Honolulu is undoubtedly the only city whose mayor, Mufi Hannemann, once played center for the Harvard basketball team. At the time he was using his full first name, which is Muliufi (he is of Samoan descent). Berman, meanwhile, was the PA guy at Ivy League rival Brown. Every time Hannemann scored, Berman would find a new way to mangle "Muliufi", so finally he just gave up and said, "Basket by... Hannemann." :dunce:

Is Berman a repuke, by any chance? "Failing upwards" does seem to be their M.O....

30. For me it would be
Joe Buck and Al Michaels. In the case of Joe Buck, he comes across as the arrogant prick he is. He certainly is no Jack Buck. The reason for Al Michaels is for his need to inject his opinion about politics during the game. I don't really care if your a Neocon, I don't need to hear your political opinions during the game. If you want to give your political opinion, why don't you go on Limpball's or Insanity's show, or better yet host your own talk show instead.

35. John Sterling (local Yankees announcer)
Here's an entire capsule Sterling game call:

"Swung on and hit to deep left field! It is high... it is far... it is... GONE! A home run for Derek Jeter! Ballgame over! Yankees win! The-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e Yankees win! Your final score, the Yankees 5, and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 4. Time of the game, an unmanageable three hours and two minutes..."

Mom and stepdad, major Yankee fans, make a game out of turning the car radio off after the final out, just before he can say "The-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e Yankees win!"
