Tiger is human - for now
I thought this would be a stroll through the magnolias for Tiger. Looks like he will have to actually sweat this one out.

1. He just snapped a club against a tree
Had to take a full swing to get the ball back into play, but the type of setup behind a tree that automatically breaks the shaft if you take a full swing.

Tiger desperately needs to get this up and down for par.

Wow, phenomenal long chip by Tiger. He'll get the par to stay 2 back with 7 holes remaining, including two par 5s.

2. Amazing turnaround by Tiger
What a break that his second shot on 13 barely caught the slope. Now he's only 2 back after the eagle and has hit it close on 14.

3. Johnson Played Well
Tiger's shot in the water on the last par 5 pretty well ended things. Tiger seems to play with the assumption that every one else will collapse. It didn't happen today. He has never come from behind to win a major. That is a remarkable statistic considering he has 12 of them, all with the lead going into the last day.

It ruined things for me when Johnson thanked Jesus. I guess Jesus kicked Tiger's ball into the water and screwed with all those other guys shots too.

4. I had the same reaction
I don't know much about Zach Johnson other than the Ryder Cup last year, when they focused on him quite a bit. I appreciated the gutsy play today but any athlete who immediately gets on the Jesus kick when they stick the mike in his face loses me completely.

5. You have it nailed Hokie
Tiger has never had to come from behind in a major, he has only had to pile it on. He was out of his element of intimidation... I'll guarantee that if Zach Johnson was in the last group with tiger he would have wilted....

Sooooooooo, I am glad tiger got humbled a bit (he looked like he wanted to cry.) I am also glad a relative newbie won, i loove the stories of struggling to get to the top and now his career is made...

it also ruined it for me when he was praisisng jesus and crediting the big J... I HAD to mention to my fundie mom that i thought jesus may have some higher priorities today than who wins a golf tournment, like people dying in the mideast!

be at peace

6. Tiger did look like he wanted to cry on 18
Once he failed to birdie 17 he knew he was out of it and I don't think I've ever seen the expression he had while playing 18. I'm sure he felt he donated this tournament.

Masters still doesn't have much rough but they've done just enough with the new little trees and the high second cut that it penalizes Tiger when he's hitting the driver as wayward as he is now. The only major that's made to order for Tiger at his current level of play is the British Open, where he can hit stinger irons off the tee and not be penalized too much in length of second shot.

7. That killed my buzz, too...
Here I am, rooting for the Iowa boy...Cinderella boy....outta nowhere, about to win the masters.

And he thanks Jesus.

As my wife said, "WTF does Jesus have to do with golf?"

I really don't like that. It's so selfish. With everything else going on the world, people starving, dying, suffering....Jesus has nothing else better to do but help you play golf. Get over thyself.
