There's always one a-hole at every sports bar

Chargers fans Arlo Magpantay (left) and Kevin Perez,
both of Mira Mesa, watched their team fall further
behind during yesterday's playoff game while Steelers
fan John Sigmund celebrated at Callahan's Pub & Brewery
in Mira Mesa. (Nancee E. Lewis / Union-Tribune)

What is the so-called Steelers fan wearing? Packers gear? :eyes:

1. The color may be off because of the lighting
But I believe that's an old school Terry Bradshaw jersey.

2. Good for that guy!
I remember going to a bar in Montreal with my Bruins shirt on to watch a game. It was one of the first wins the Bruins had gotten there in years and years, and I was pretty obnoxious about it. :P

which is of course, a person native to the area.

And I did not look it up. OTOH, I don't dislike Montreal, have no reason to insult them (love the city, which I've visited), and buy "The Hockey Sweater" for all the little kids I know.

I just reserve the right to insult them.

The Sharks look awesome. Detroit is still the team to beat, but if the Sharks get them head to head they've had some luck against them over the years (ask Detroit how they feel about drawing the Sharks as the 8 seed lol).

Hmmm, maybe a Bruins/Sharks final?

#1 SJ - 31-5-5
#2 Bos - 31-7-4

23. Heh
That second pic actually is a good reason why the rivalry heated back up. All last year Montreal dominated the Bruins, and their fans flooded Boston for every game, singing the "Na Na Na, Goodbye" song, and "Ole Ole Ole"....in the B's building, dammit! Let's just say it fostered a little emotion on the Boston side for this year (and a few fights in the stands last year). :)

We play them again tonight (on VS if you got it)....the rivalry renewed!

29. I can't believe the season is half over and the Sharks haven't lost at home yet.
That's unreal in hockey. The B's have only lost a few, and that's awesome. To lose none 42 games in is amazing.

It's cool that the Thornton trade worked out the way it did. I liked him a lot, but we weren't getting it done with him here. The trade itself wasn't good for the B's player wise (Stuart was the only one who I liked in the deal), but it shook the team up and made them refocus. The next year they started reshuffling the off-ice structure of the team itself, but it was that trade that was the catalyst for both teams going from sucky to contenders.

Nabokov doesn't hurt either. A truly under-rated player in the East Coast/Canadian minded hockey press. I watched his very first full game against Roy and the Avs and the game ended 0-0 (this was before the shootout rule). Great stuff.

30 minutes 'til faceoff. :D

38. Bit of luck on that 2nd goal.
This is exactly what to expect from these two teams. A tough, ugly game. The B's lead the league in goals, but you'd never know it when these teams play. Montreal is playing a great road game so far, and they deserve to be tied or better.

Loved Thomas dishing out the forearm on the Montreal player. The check by the Montreal dude wasn't anything outrageous, but it's great to see a teammate step right up like that, especially the goalie. They've been doing this for each other all year. Always a good sign in any sport.

This game is following a nice pattern the B's have developed where they slowly but surely take over a game and win going away. Hopefully the 3rd will follow that, but the Habs are tough little blighters.

42. When SJ upset the Wings that year, it was terrible
I played my first round of golf that day (and one of my last; I'm terrible) - 18 holes, and it was sleeting and hailing. I got frozen cold. We came home and put the hockey game on. It was devastating enough when we lost, but later that day, I was hosting all our friends for a basketball playoff game (Sonics - we had to get it PPV that year) and I just knew everybody would come and rib me about it. So I went out into the back yard and cried for about ten minutes, just to get it out of my system. I didn't want anyone to come over, but we'd ordered the game, I had food ready, and I couldn't stop it. Plus, after spending four hours in rain and hail, I was physically drained. I still remember how I felt, crying out there in the yard.

IIRC, I may have put down a few beers that night!!!!

which followed an OT loss in Columbus.

So...I realize it's not a major slump compared to most teams, but they hadn't been playing great recently.

It's what they always said here in Boston, so that's what I thought it always was.

Look at it this way, most people can't tell you who Terrible Ted Lindsay was, or know that the term "Production Line" even has a meaning outside of auto makers, but I'm sure you do. :)

I had a neighbor when I kid, and his dad had all these 8mm films of football and hockey from the 60's, all from the Blackhawks, Red Wings, and Bears. It was literally like raw footage of the games, no ads or announcers, but it was usually full games with all the pauses between whistles edited out. I was totally entranced by it, and I must have made my friend play them a hundred times. He had tons of Bears footage, which is why I feel confident in saying that Butkus was the best damn defensive player ever. Seeing players like Bobby Hull, Howe, Gayle Sayers...it was heaven.

Being a kid I never thought to ask how my friend's dad had all that footage. I'd love to know, because it was a treasure for me as a kid.

Take the Red Wings biggest rival, inject it with growth hormone, add ten measures of hate, and you have the Boston-Montreal rivalry. It lagged for a few years, but it's gotten pretty intense again the last couple of years. Great stuff.

Btw, and friend and I were talking the other day about Lidstrom. Now, being in Boston we have a couple of greats to choose from in Orr and Bourque, but we came to the conclusion that Lidstrom is better than Ray was (though not as good as Orr was). The guy is just amazing, night in and night out. I don't think I've ever seen him have an off game. Bourque was amazing, but Lidstrom is better, and I don't say that lightly.

Orr was simply on a whole different plane of existence though. :)

55. As far as 42 goes...
I doubt anyone but the players themselves ever owned a John Kuhn, Myron Bell or Randy Cuthbert Steelers #42 (going back to '93). Being California, I guess it could be an Aaron Rogers Packers jersey, since he went to Cal and probably has some fans in the area. I still think it could be a Bradshaw throwback/knockoff jersey in odd lighting, but I'm not so sure now.

I think it would make him even more of a douchebag if he wasn't even a Steelers fan, just hatin' on the local team. At least as a Steelers fan, you can respect the fact that he's supporting his team, as a Packers fan, he's just being an asshole for no good reason.

Maybe he's got $$ on the game, though. If found myself cheering for some unlikely suspects with money on the line.
