Manny has jacked two homers so far today.
He is finally hot again.

But, naturally, he's doing it against Aaron Cook and the Rockies.

3. I saw the line drive.
Manny tried. A better outfielder could have caught it. But Manny didn't tank it.

2. Not bad for a "cancer"...the Sox miss Manny
Despite last night's 10 run uprising, the Red Sox are batting .254 as a team...with David Ortiz hitting .158.

Sure, it's early but without Manny to protect him Ortiz is not the same hitter.

6. Ortiz hit .198 last April...with Manny protecting him. Next?
Hey, if you want to keep making a fool of yourself I'm all for it, but don't you get tired of looking like a complete moran after awhile?

10. Lets wait till the end of the season
if the Sox as a team are hitting comparable to the years with Manny, and Ortiz has similar power numbers...then you'll be proven correct. Otherwise, you'll be scrambling for excuses.

11. Nice shifting the goalposts there, Sport.
Your logic is more unstable than Crispin Glover.

if the Sox as a team are hitting comparable to the years with Manny, and Ortiz has similar power numbers

Can't make that comparison. Different team and players, an older Ortiz coming off a wrist injury, etc. You have this odd obsession with the idea that Manny was the reason the Sox ever had any success. He was a part of it, but far from the only reason.

then you'll be proven correct.

And you still haven't been, but you'll flog this dead horse to try to get digs in at Sox fans, all the while just making an idiot of yourself to any knowledgable baseball fan. Maybe the rubes buy your (il)logic...try it on them next time.

Otherwise, you'll be scrambling for excuses.

Like you're doing right here now that your argument was shot to shit by me and A-Long_Little_Doggy?

Give it up. You look like a complete fool.

7. Yup, the problem with Ortiz is that he has that slacker Kevin Youkilis
batting 4th.

You know, the guy that is hitting .429 with 12 HR and a .750 slugging average.

Ferchristsakes, Upton, do your homework before posting something this stupid.

13. I've got this
I'm definitely not alone in thinking Red Sox fans have lost perspective..

I sat up on the Green Monster while he was down in front of me in left field, the player who led Boston to an early and safe lead over Colorado in the 2007 World Series. Many people are responsible for the turnaround of Red Sox Nation fortunes in this decade, but none moreso than Manny. Trashing him now just sounds comically bizarre.

In fact, his No. 24 jersey should be retired at Fenway one day. That is how wrong the perspective is, completely and amazingly wrong.

If you dare to interject an opinion as an "outsider" who is not technically part of Red Sox Nation, then you are told that, "You just don't get it." On the contrary, it is time for many Sox fans to hear an outside perspective on how it looks when The Nation is bashing a guy who came and led them to a promised land awaited by generations.

14. Yes, we've seen that drivel already.
And if that piece is all you've got than you're even sadder than I previously thought. We all know it's just so difficult to find an opinion piece online that agrees with someone these days. :eyes:

How many time you going to shift those goalposts from your original comment about Ortiz sucking because there's no one protecting him?

Keep going, Upton. I'm truly enjoying doing this to you.

15. Couple of questions
Is everything "drivel" that you don't agree with?

Are you suggesting that Youklis, because he's had a nice April, is somehow equivalent to Manny in terms of protecting Ortiz?

Manny is one of the most feared hitters in the game, simple logic should tell you that his absence has and will be felt. However, you have this weird Manny hatred going on..in which you refuse to acknowledge what he did for the team. I find it all rather odd.

16. Still moving those goalposts I see.
Is everything "drivel" that you don't agree with?

No, do you? In this case that piece IS drivel. When people here say that people such as yourself don't get it from 3,000 miles away it's because people such as yourself don't get it from 3,000 miles away. I know that truth hurts you, and makes us look conceited, but tough shit. It's the truth. Deal.

Are you suggesting that Youklis, because he's had a nice April, is somehow equivalent to Manny in terms of protecting Ortiz?

I don't know yet. This is his first chance to do so, and so far he's kicking ass. Youk's on base percentage is better than Manny's, and he's clearly one of the tougher outs to get in the league. He's not the deep threat Manny is, but not many in the league are.

Manny is one of the most feared hitters in the game, simple logic should tell you that his absence has and will be felt.

No one has said otherwise, but the thing you never acknowledge is the negative effect he had on the team in every other regard. His being called a cancer was no mistake. He was a sideshow year after year. A baby who needed to be coddled just so he wouldn't fake an injury to get out of a game. Maybe players who bail on their teammates because they have issues with management is cool in your world, but not many athletes will agree with you on that one. It's one thing to be pissed at the owners, but you don't bail on your teammates and take games off to pout. He did all those things, and much more. You seem to avoid that part of Manny's behavior like the plague, like team chemistry has nothing to do with how a team plays over the long run. If just stocking up on the best players was the key to success why has it failed so miserably for teams like the Yankees and NY Rangers when they were under Smith?

However, you have this weird Manny hatred going on..in which you refuse to acknowledge what he did for the team.

I do hate him, and there's nothing weird about it. And I'm hardly alone, and not just in Boston. As someone who played sports and literally bled for my teammates I find players like him to be beneath contempt. He disrespected his teammates, the ultimate sin in my view of sports. Those are the guys who bust their asses day in and day out for him as well as what he does for them. He spit on that team spirit because it's about him, not the team. The type of guy who seems right up your alley.

And you're full of shit about me not acknowledging what he did for the team. I just said he was a part of their success above. Can't you read? And I've said it before that. He's an awesome hitter, one of the best I've ever seen, and he was a big part of the Sox success. But it's ironic you talk of not acknowledging things when you ignore the bad things about Manny over and over. I find it all rather odd.

17. You just don't get it.
Seriously. Did you ever see him take 3 called strikes against the Skanks because he was having some kind of tantrum? Fake an injury because someone insulted his fragile psyche? Dog it out in left field for whatever reason? Forget how many outs there were? "Forget" to take the field between innings?

Yeah, he is one of the best hitters the game has ever seen. He will be in the HOF, and deserves to be there for his offensive stats. But on a day to day basis you never knew which Manny was going to show up. The resulting tension caused the cancer that had to be removed for the health of the team.

20. I can see from your point of view, how you are a REAL Bay Area
Lab Co. fan.

But regardless, I digress.

Now, since you are self professed REAL sports fan, then I assume you would support the team that wins the Giants division through the playoffs and World Series.

If not, then you are a traitor to your division and league.

INTELLIGENT SPORTS FANS know this rule.

21. Nowhere
in the rules of the REAL sports fan, is it mandated that one must root for their favorite team's hated rival under any circumstances. In fact, I would question the credentials of anyone who would do so.

BTW, intelligence is a prerequisite in becoming a REAL sports fan.

22. Interestingly, I had that mindset when I was a bit younger. I remember
back when I was going into Junior High School having that mentality.

In the years since then, though, things such as the prominence of division and league have become more important. If the winner from your division or league wins, then that enhances the prestige of your favourite team, as they have had much tougher competition to get there.

OTOH, if you want to stick with childish versions of REAL SPORTS FANS, then have at it.

:woohoo:

One need not compromise...the things that you alluded to, the prominence or reputation of a division or league, are cyclical anyway.

23. In a forum full of your endless idiocy, this "real" sports fan stuff takes the cake.
Seriously, have you graduated from high school yet, because I honestly have seen very little evidence that you've matured past that age. I'm not kidding...I really mean that. If you just pretending to be this childish than you're as good an actor as Laurence Olivier. If you're not pretending...well, that's just scary shit, and I fear for your family, friends and neighbors.

No wonder half the people think sports fans are all idiotic knuckle draggers with you as the face of "real" sports fans. Please, do try to act like you've passed puberty. You might just find acting like an adult to be agreeable. You never know until you try.

How can you know so much about hockey and still be one of the dumbest sports fan I've ever come across?
