Brodeur temper tantrum (Canes score with .2 of a second left)

Sorry Resch, but you are a homer. This was incidental contact outside the crease with Brodeur moving away from the crease into Jokinen who was moving sideways. He also had time to reset. The goal was scored in front of my seats right in front of me.

1. Resch was a clown.
Marty is probably my favorite player in the league, and after the Bruins the Devils are the team I want to win. But that goal was legit. Marty wasn't in the crease to begin with, and he really wasn't bumped very hard anyways. I can understand his frustration in the heat of the moment, but I think the goal was good.

2. Marty is a real intense player which is why he is so good.
He is giving the Devils something for game 5. I just hope my Canes can steal it in Jersey Thursday and win Sunday on home ice.

3. It's really becoming one of the best series in this round.
The Devils will come out flying Thursday, but if the Canes can survive the 1st period either tied or down a goal they'll be in decent shape to steal the game.

6. Here's some interesting Canes/Devils playoff trivia.
Every time in this decade the Canes and Devils have met each other in the playoffs, the winner of the series has gone on to play for the cup in the finals. Just coincidence but is still in the minds of the perspective clubs and fans.

4. How embarrassing
I mean for Resch. That was literally nothing. I'm OK with Brodeur going a bit nuts; he's a competitor, he's angry - I don't expect him to go whistling to the dressing room after that. But I think even if you're in the goaltenders union you have to realize that this incidental bump is the kind of thing that's gonna happen if you're that far out of the crease, and you can't expect even the most sympathetic ref to blow a whistle for it.

5. Yep. I understand his emotional tie.
At the same time, he is supposed to provide expert color commentary due to his background.

7. I don't blame him, he got bumped and knocked out of position.
With all the ticky-tack bullshit they call these days, they're just going to allow people to bump the goalie? I would be pissed too. The Crosby goal in the Pens/Flyers game also was ridiculous. Everyone should just run the goalies now since it seems to be ok.

11. Jokinen wasn't running Brodeur in that sequence.

13. No, but he did interfere with him.
If they are going to call such ridiculous touch penalties as they do, that one certainly should have been called.

14. Outside the crease, on ice officials are allowed discretion
Edited on Wed Apr-22-09 10:12 PM by mmonk
in their judgment on the play. Since Brodeur was moving forward away from the crease and Jokinen laterally following the pass from Pitkanen to Seidenberg to screen the puck, I think the judgment was correct (as did the NHL offices). Jokinen has a right to space on the ice also. I guess, though, since it is the ref's discretion by the rules, it could have been called.

8. Brodeur got used to an easy life with clutch and grab not being called.
Now that he has to face real hockey he doesn't like it.
