Teixeira expects icy reception at Fenway
Mark Teixeira dug in for his first road at-bat of the season to a chorus of lusty boos, but the tidal waves of insults seemed to die down by the end of the Yankees' series with the Orioles earlier this month.

Teixeira should expect no such pass when the Yankees enter Fenway Park for a three-game series this weekend, the slugger's first experience in the game's most intense rivalry. After spurning Boston to sign an eight-year deal in New York, Teixeira can get used to icy receptions on Yawkey Way.

"I'm not sure if it's going to be louder, because it's April still," Teixeira said. "But it's going to be fun, because Red Sox - Yankees is always fun. It's what I'm used to on the road.

"I never hear anything, there's so much noise, you never really hear any words. I'm sure it will be the same. I expect heavy boos. I expect nothing less from those fans."

1. When the Yankees come to DC
Edited on Fri Apr-24-09 01:13 PM by TZ
He's REALLY gonna hear it. He's local and he turned down MORE MONEY to play for the bleeping Yankees. Can't say I blame them. How is a franchise like DC gonna get better with people like this only wanting to play for teh kewl kids? I don't care for him..at all. He definitely toyed with the Nats and O's while obviously having no intention of signing anywhere but New York.

2. That's the trouble with being bad team.
No one wants to go there, just making the situation worse. The Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots all went through that at times. It makes it almost impossible to turn a team around without some kind of quality farm system. That's what finally turned the tides for the Red Sox as much as spending big money. They've managed to bring up some awesome players (Perdroia, Ellsbury, Lester, Masterson, and on and on) and that's given them a lot of flexibility. Then can deal these players for established stars, or groom them themselves. It hasn't hurt that Theo Epstein just knows his shit either.

It's even worse in the NBA if you're a mediocre team that finishes middle of the pack. You keep getting a middle of the pack draft pick, insuring that you'll stay a mediocre team.

3. Can't say I really care one way or the other about him...
...think he's over-paid and I would like him to play horribly this weekend, but I'll save my boos for others.
