New class brings history home to students
The class begins with a study of individuality and social responsibility, in which students complete activities to assist them in defining their own role in society. They discuss the historical development of the Holocaust and other instances of collective violence and learn how to be an active, informed participant in society.

The course culminates with service learning projects where students have to pick and research a cause and develop a project to help that cause within their community.

The idea, Berman said, is to have students "understand the lessons of history" and "come away with a better sense of social responsibility.

"They will also learn that they really can make a difference," he said.

1. Interesting
but I'd say it is more social science using history as a lesson in the responsibilities of good citizenship, which is always important.
