Paging Hannah and other researchers! Re: Ravitch's book
I am reading Ravitch's book and WOW so far it's very revealing. There are a couple recurring themes in it I'd like to do more research in but my Internet is down.

Speaking of, how not thrilled I was to just read in Ravitch's book about the charter school started by Time Warner. Cause their customer service really sucks. If I didn't have Internet access on my phone I'd have no Internet access at all. Thanks Time Warner!

Anyhow here are the topics to research:

San Diego Reform Model - how an unbroken successful school district was broken

NYC Reform - there's been a lot here on that but it's a huge topic with implications for all of us.

Top down management and how failing to involve teachers in reform results in failed reform

The movement to change teaching without revising curriculum

We all need to read Ravitch's book. It's just incredibly revealing and I am sure connecting a lot of dots. I'm also becoming increasingly angry.

3. I paged through it at B&N this afternoon
very interesting read. I will buy it Thur$day. I did note the part about Michelle Rhee's astronomical improvement in reading scores -- and the fact that no one can find the tests to validate Rhee's claims. I'm shocked.

6. It's on backorder at Borders, B&N, & Amazon
Edited on Tue Mar-16-10 10:29 AM by Catshrink
amazing how it's taken off, eh? I should say the online stores. I did see two copies of the book at a brick & mortar B&N yesterday but at full price. It's 40% off online. I might go get it at the store anyway if they still have any left on Thursday.
