Russian gays convicted of promoting homosexuality
Russian gays convicted of promoting homosexuality

(Moscow) Two Russian gay activists Monday were convicted of promoting homosexuality in Ryazan, southeast of Moscow.

The Ryazan region is the only area in Russia with a law barring discussion of homosexuality to minors. The law is used to bar schools from any discussion of gay issues.

Nikolai Baev and Irina Fet, both associated with Moscow Pride, were charged with “propaganda of homosexuality to minors” for carrying a banner advocating gay rights close to a school and a library.

The banner declared “Homosexuality is normal” and “I am proud of my homosexuality.”

Baev and Fet said they wanted to show that the law is unconstitutional.

1. The Russians who live in California are some of the most
notorious homophobes around.

I wish they would shove their culture up their asses.

2. At the Prop 8 hearings almost 80% of the Yes on 8 people were Russian
some have speculated they were paid to be there - non of them would talk to me - infact the only people they would talk to were young people and members of their own group. They seemed to have papers with talking points and were there to shout down the No On 8 press conference (no one heard a word that was said because of their rudeness).

Its important to remember not all Russians are like this - but unfortunately there are some Russian immigrants that are being used by the Religious right.

3. They were very active in the heavily populated Sacramento
suburb of Citrus Heights .. demonstrated nightly during commute waving their yellow yes on 8 signs.

They were mostly young and happily spoke with television reporters talking about how marriage is between and man and woman, blah blah.

I don't believe they were paid .. I think they were encouraged to get involved through their Slavic churches.

They like living in the United States, but love hanging on to their horrific culture of punishing gay people.

5. I think you mean 80% of Russians voted yes...
not that 80% of the yes voters were Russian. There aren't that many Russians in California.

6. Everyone can call me anything they like for this
But there is something particularly irking about having my rights opposed in my country by people with foreign accents.

4. So the group t.A.T.u. is allowed to promote homosexuality, but private citizens are not?!?!
What kind of fucked up law is that?
