Any Prop 8 lawsuit news?
The silence is killing me!

By my calculations, the decision will be announced on or before June 3 (that being 90 days after March 5). Has there been any peep out of the Supreme Court since March 5? Or from anywhere else? Is there anything that can satisfy my strong curiosity? Or do I just have to sit tight until they finally announce their decision?

1. Heard nothing here but...and I may be all wet...I keep thinking the CASC is trying verry verry hard
to come up with some way to avoid making a decision one way or the other. No, I don't know how that might be done but then I never thought the USSC would find a way to anoint...er, appoint W.

2. There are protest being planned this friday state wide aimed to influence the Courts decision

Please attend one if you can:

From San Diego oriented email:

Dear Community Members,

Wanted to let you know that the members of SAME are planning a demonstration this Friday April 10th at 5pm in front of the Hall of Justice downtown (at Broadway & Union). This demonstration is planned with the understanding that it is still not too late for our community to influence a decision by the California Supreme Court. In light of recent & solid victories in Iowa, VT, and DC--this is our chance to show our Supreme Court & citizens that anything less than full marriage equality will be unacceptable in California.

Before Prop 8 passed, hundreds of San Diego volunteers (myself included) spent hours several days a week on phone-banking with registered voters in the hopes that Californians would not vote to take away the rights of a minority. After our devastating loss, what many of us (in retrospect) agreed is that what had been lacking, in all our hard and dedicated work, was some form of strong visibilty, on the streets, for our cause. For some of us, November 4th may seem like the distant past now, and for some of us it is all too memorable still. Either way, it is clear that our fight is obviously far from over. We still don't have marriage equality in this state. What we do still have is time--though limited--to influence the Supreme Court before it makes its decision. We must take the opportunity now to raise our voices in protest to the agency who is currently in the position to defend our civil rights--the Supreme Court.

In the meantime, we have to take the chance we have to act, now. So join us. Please, come and invite your friends and contacts to join this protest & demand for civil rights with your signs, your families, your protest chants, and your fighting spirit for equal rights. Please pass this on to your friends on facebook, and everyone else you know who is personally invested in & supportive of this cause. We need eveyone we can get to raise their voices in strong demand for our equality and civil rights on this day.

3. I'd really love to, but,
it's difficult for me to travel. Even though I live 25 or so miles north of the Oregon–California border, I actually don't travel out of town much, and I've been on a significant trip to California only two or three times in my life. But of course, y'all have my moral support.

4. The questions asked by the judges indicates they will not be overturning Prop 8

One of the judges who overturned Prop 22 was especially hard on the lawyers looking to overturn Prop 8.

5. That's what I've heard too, and that's sad.
But thankfully, it's not over, even if the court hands down an unfavorable ruling.

6. That's right

Prop 22 passed with a greater margin than Prop 8, so support for gay marriage in California is growing.

It's just a matter of time.
