2. Lying, fear-mongering, steamin' sack of sh!t.
Edited on Thu Apr-09-09 01:35 AM by Heidi
That's what that campaign is. When _all_ of us have equal human rights, life is _better_ for all of us, including those lying, fear-mongering, steamin' sacks of sh!t whose freedom isn't the least bit threatened by extending human rights to other humans.

In case I wasn't clear: :grr:

11. You just don't get it, do you?
They don't WANT life to be better for ALL people. Just them.

Gays and Lesbians are trying to force their way into the lives of these people. Never mind it's exactly the same thing they are trying to do to us by legislation of hate.

13. Sorry....I'm so used to saying sarcastic things...
I tend to forget the :sarcasm: tag.

Yes, I know everyone here gets it. Sadly it's something we're beaten over the head with on an almost daily basis, even by some of our "friends".

My apologies if I in any way came off as an ass. Not intentional. I assure you.

27. What they really mean is....
Their "freedom" to have hate taught and accepted as a way of life and to restrict the freedom of others. That's not how I define freedom.

28. This is a very calculated strategic move
The "Rainbow Coalition" or originally the "National Rainbow Coalition" was Jesse Jackson's political movement of the 80's (still alive today) which sought to unite the political interests of disenfranchised racial, ethnic and social groups (including gays and lesbians).

What they are trying to do is pass a subtle message to people of all racial groups know that it's OK to jump on their hate bandwagon because even though they may hate them as well, they hate gays more. The psychosis is pretty sick if you think about it much.

"To protect marriage...a gathering storm...blah blah"

They are moving it up for early release. :puke:

An army of marriage activists to protect from Teh Gay, in every State? Sounds a little fascista.

Jeffry Toobin says Vt. was so significant because it was the people's reps who voted this in.

NJ, Maine, maybe NY where the legislation is the way it will be next.

Toobin says almost impossible to overturn Iowa, and Vt. is safe too.

Young people overwhelmingly support gay marriage.

Toobin still thinking that the defense of marriage act prevents the Fed from recognizing the States, but, may eventually come up fpr challenge.

The segment is over, phew. :P

7. yes, it was aired on the evening news here in ny/nj metro area
We were watching the news while having dinner. I normally mute all commercials but when I saw this thing, I turned up the sound. We were both staring at each other in shock and disbelief. In one spot of this commercial, a woman says something that indicates that being gay will be forced on people.

Really, the commercial is so over the top and ridiculous as to be laughable.

6. These are the exact same lies they used for Prop 8 - it must be stopped
They are using the same lies because they work. We must start speaking out louder against the hate.

And just incase anyone missed it - NOM is a Mormon Church front group. Its the main group that got Prop. 8 on the ballot.

9. "The Mortal Storm" was an American movie from 1939 about the rise of suppression
Edited on Thu Apr-09-09 02:45 AM by Hissyspit
against minorities in Europe by the Nazis. It was a brave and prescient movie. Its title sequence showed storm clouds like the background of this video. Churchill wrote of "the gathering storm" in reference to the rise of the Nazis in Europe, as the title of his first volume on the history of the Second World War. To use the metaphor this way is to equate gay marriage with Nazism. It is demagogic reframing being used to equate a civil right with authoritarianism.

"I am afraid."

Of what?

"My freedom will be taken away."

How? So because of this imagined danger you have to take away the freedoms of others?

This is particularly sick, immoral and ugly reframing by PR people. It won't work in the long run, but it can be especially effective in the short run. We have called these people by the name of what they are for at least four centuries, originally meaning 'superstitious hypocrite' (like the "doctor" in the ad). They are bigots.

10. Stupidest damn ad in the world.
"There is a storm coming...and I am afraid."

WHY???? Why is gay marriage a "storm"? Why does it make you "afraid," you bleedin' wusses? What skin is it off YOUR ass?? How in the hell does it take YOUR "rights" away??

Know what it reminds me of? The fake political ad in the movie Minority Report, in which various people say "I was saved by the Precrime Program"--the program initially instituted in DC in the movie plot, set about 50 years into the future, in which police used their ability to predict violent crimes to arrest and incarcerate people who had committed no crime but were "about" to. The ad was full of "potential victims" stepping forward and saying things like "The Precrime Program prevented me from being raped" and "The Precrime Program prevented me from being brutally murdered" and "The Precrime Program stopped the man who was going to kidnap and kill my daughter." The ad was designed to persuade Americans to vote to roll the program out nationwide. It made the choice look easy: Prevent crime, vote for the program. Of course, it ignored the whole Constitutional issue of whether it is legal to lock up people who haven't broken any laws.

"Rainbow coalition of people who love--" my ass. These people, thankfully, are on the wrong side of history, and they will be defeated.

21. Do I recall correctly that CNN or the NY Times refused to run ads
supportive of same-sex marriage back in 2003 or 4, saying that they have a longstanding policy to not accept controversial advertisements?

The only reason I ask is that given the extremely controversial and offensive nature of this ad, we should try to get media outlets to ban it, since they banned pro-same-sex marriage ads before?
