I am not sure of the degree of fact behind this story, but if it is indeed true then there must be a way to put a stop to it being that Iraq is Bush's legacy Democracy.....

Report: Iraqi militia kill gays with anal glue torture

The International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission is circulating a foreign report which claims that gay Iraqis are being murdered using a monstrous torture tactic.

The IGLHRC notes:

The following is a translation of a story from Alarabiya, a UAE-based media network, which was published on its Arabic website a few hours ago. While IGLHRC has not verified all of the allegations, many are consistent with patterns of human rights violations being reported from within the country. As a signatory to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), the Iraqi government has an obligation to protect the right to life (Article 6) and the right of all its citizens “to be free from torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment” (Article 7).

From the translated Al Arabiya article:

A prominent Iraqi human rights activist says that Iraqi militia have deployed a painful form of torture against homosexuals by closing their anuses using "Iranian gum.” … Yanar Mohammad told Alarabiya.net that, “Iraqi militias have deployed an unprecedented form of torture against homosexuals by using a very strong glue that will close their anus.”

According to her, the new substance 'is known as the American hum, which is an Iranian-manufactured glue that if applied to the skin, sticks to it and can only be removed by surgery. After they glue the anuses of homosexuals, they give them a drink that causes diarrhea. Since the anus is closed, the diarrhea causes death. Videos of this form of torture are being distributed on mobile cellphones in Iraq.' According to this human rights activist, for the past 3 weeks a crackdown on homosexuals has been going on based on a religious decree that demands their death; dozens have been targeted. She says that the persecution of homosexuals is not confined to the Shiite clerics. Some Sunni leaders have also declared the death penalty for sodomy on satellite channels."

This matter absolutely shocks the conscience. I truly hope this story is not factual....it bothers me on such a deep level that I hope of of my fellow DUers can prove it to be a false report....I might be able to sleep then.

Human beings are very inventive. Once a group of people has been depersonalized, it's easy to think up all kinds of ways to torture, maim, and kill.

3. I think that certain things just are beyond the pale

and cannot be categorized as *this is worse than that* and so I believe BOTH Child Molestation and this Iraqi Torture Method to be in that same category of being "beyond the pale". You hit the nail on the head with this statement: "Once a group of people has been depersonalized, it's easy".

4. Whether or not this is factual, the truth still stands they are murdering

gays by the lot of 20 , last I heard they had 120 some gays in custody to be murdered 20 or so at a time.
They are hunting gay men down breaking down doors to family homes and seizing them, terrorizing other family members. Also taking their victims cell phones to track down other these guys might know.

Earlier today I posted disturbing BBC video of a young Iraqi man being forced to strip at a police stop for wearing women's clothes, as well as reports of fliers being posted around Baghdad's Sadr City (above) threatening death to homosexuals.

so whether the report is false or not, we're still being murdered, and it's still gruesome and a blight on humanity that these people are killing their own kith and kin because of some judgment about what they do with their reproductive organs.

No, the bigger issue to me is that the White House has not taken an official position on the murder of gays in Iraq, by whatever means, since the media started reporting it.
