NY Senate now Republican controlled: Democrats flipped the fence.
Edited on Mon Jun-08-09 05:41 PM by cecilfirefox
Here's the link,

http://www.365gay.com/news/vanasco-uproar-in-ny-senate-gay-marriage-gone/

Edit: It appears to Democratic Senators have flipped the fence and voted for the Republican parties leadership in the NY State Senate. Although they still remain Democrats this has many consequences for the state, one of which is that the issue of Same Sex Marriage will probably not come up to a vote.

Lame is lame. :/

UPDATE: This was posted on the New York State Senate website.

It's really confusing me. Did the leadership change, is there a legal dispute now? o_O

NEXT UPDATE: Plot thickens, here's a NY times article.

Just makes them true to my current Democrat image: spineless.

2. What gets me is that they are from NYC and not some conservative upstate bastion.
That's what I can't understand.

3. Must be from conservative districts - or,
they just don't agree with equal marriage rights.

Either way, fuck them.

4. It doesn't mean they won't get voted out. My former state senator(Mark Gilstrap) lost to a woman
in the primary because quite frankly he wasn't a very good Democrat. That was in Leavenworth/Wyandotte county Kansas. I bet you 10 dollars one or two of those Senators won't be re-elected. If memory serves I believe the most seats up in 2010 in the Senate are controlled by Republicans anyways.

6. I doubt they switched because of same-sex marriage
considering Espada is a sponsor of the same-sex marriage bill.

8. I betcha some people around these parts will say it is the reason, though.

11. A consequence of knowing absolutely nothing about the NY Senate
except that same-sex marriage in New York hinges on it.

9. It does not say that they flipped BECAUSE of gay marriage.
Edited on Mon Jun-08-09 05:38 PM by RufusH
Pretty irresponsible of you to suggest that the unsubstantiated rumors they mention are the cause.

"But Mr. Diaz did not join Mr. Espada and Mr. Monserrate in the leadership vote on Monday. It was not immediately clear whether the same-sex marriage legislation played any role in the leadership dispute."

Are you just trying to twist it for your own agenda, whatever that is?

10. First off, I was assuming this was the case because several Democrats in the Senate previously
threatened to jump ship if the same sex marriage issue was brought to a vote. Thus, it was my original instinct that this is what had caused the switch in power. Either way the issue of equal marriage rights is now off the table in the NY Senate.

P.S. Bad troll is bad, I suggest going back to FreeRepublic.

12. Pardon me? You calling me a troll? Is that how you defend your OP?
Edited on Mon Jun-08-09 05:42 PM by RufusH
The article mentions RUMORS, not fact. And I doubt that the issue is completely off the table because of this. It almost seems as if you want it to be.

Thanks for editing out your assumption in your OP in any case.

16. He should "go back" to FreeRepublic because
he pointed out your quickness in assuming the coup related solely to the issue of same-sex marriage and inability to do any research on the topic before posting?

18. Read post.

No, he should get off his high horse because instead of doing the appropriate thing which is to assume it's an honest mistake due to a lack of information presented to the OP instead decided to accuse me of knowingly misconstruing something for my own personal needs.

That's why I am upset at him.

That being said, I am done with this topic of conversation. I'd much rather talk about the implications of a now Repuke controlled State Senate in NY.
