So I've had to write to the White House twice today about LGBT issues
Anyone who knows me at DU knows that I am generally an advocate for the president’s agenda and I think he’s done a great job so far.

But these last few LGBT issues that have come up have been completely atrocious. I understand why he doesn’t want to repeal DADT right now. He’s trying to get Congress to act on many fronts and it’s going to take a lot of arm twisting to get it all done. Priorities must be made and I guess he feels like there's a finite amount of political capital.

That being said, it would be one thing to not be active in their repeal, but the decisions and rationale that DOJ has used for some of these things has been incomprehensible. Congress has a right to enact DOMA because it is cheaper? I will continue to stand by the president for most of the things he’s done, but he needs to step up and quickly on LGBT issues.

BTW, I’m not gay, but I don’t think that should be a factor in my being upset by this. Sorry if this isn’t the most complete or well thought out of posts, but I’m feeling really angry and conflicted right now.

2. Thank you for your support
But Obama just isn't an ally and he proves it more every day. Sadly I think he'll screw us worse than Bush ever did.

5. Not only because it's cheaper, but because we're like Pedophiles apparently!
:grr:

And equal rights for us is NOTHING like equal rights for black people, so past civil rights cases shouldn't be used as precedents.

Those are the rationales that the DoJ put in their brief for defending the DOMA!

:nuke: :nuke: :nuke:

This, from Obama's Administration! From the administration of the supposed "Fierce Advocate" for our rights. x(
