Dolly Parton says gay rights are a 'human' issue
Dolly Parton has said she believes gay rights are "human rights", rather than being a political issue.

The singer told The Times: "I'm not a poster child for gay rights by any means.

"But I have so many gay and lesbian friends and they’re just so pure and so true. That's not politics to me. That's human rights."

But she added: "Look at the poor Dixie Chicks. They were just trying to make a personal statement and it ruined them. So I stay away from that."

The Dixie Chicks received hate mail and lost fans when singer Natalie Maines said in 2003 that the band were "ashamed" that George W Bush came from Texas.

Parton spoke last year about her gay fans. She told CNN's Joy Behar: "I think its because they know I'm different too and it took me a long time be accepted. And I think that they just kind of relate to that."

6. Dolly's heart is bigger than her "ahem"
Real beauty comes from inside, and she's a wonderful example. Love - the more you give, the more you have.

11. I suggest you rent 9-5 and listen to Dolly, Lily and Jane's commentary...
...both Lily and Jane are pretty serious people, but Dolly was being Dolly and had them laughing and being much more animated in no time. I think what you see is what you get with Dolly.

14. You know how when you see someone famous, and you think "this person is really fake"?
The complete opposite is true for Dolly. Every time she gives an interview, every time she speaks, you can tell that she's a completely 100% genuine person. It's rare for me to see someone who is famous, and just have an urge to run up to them and give them a big hug. Dolly is one of those people.

Of course, this says nothing about her personal charisma and sense of humor. She is one of the most charismatic people I've ever seen, and is funny as hell too. She's a real jewel - an American treasure.
