Withers: Conservative MN pol takes a gay porn star to dinner
Withers: MN pol takes a porn star to dinner

If you are a conservative Republican, getting prepared for a primary run, it might not be a good idea to have a story about having dinner with a gay porn star. Paul Koering is a Minnesota state senator with the standard Republican positions. Against abortion and lover of gun rights. He also has a crush on porn star Brandon Wilde.

Wilde is from Minnesota–clearly I need to move there; he and the senator started out as Facebook friends. They met at a gay pride picnic—Koering has been out since 2005—and that is where dinner plans were made.

Give Koering credit. Unlike some conservative brethren (how are things shaking Mr. Rekers?) when he was asked about the evening of steak meals there was no flinching.

“I don’t see anything wrong with going out with him. Do I think that being a porn star is the best thing? No. But that’s his choice. I think he’s a nice guy.”

He’s right of course. Dinner is no big deal, but I’m willing to bet some of his constituents might have a problem with it.

1. So a Republican DOESN'T Lie, And We're Supposed To....What? Crucify Him?
Good for Koering. He's free to fuck all the gay porn stars he wants, and the fact that he's so open about it is a credit to him. If it weren't for his stupid-ass abortion policy, he'd get probably get my vote if he were running in my town.

2. What is it with repukes and porn stars? Jeffrey gannon, this guy, that
so-called soldier selling his story on Fox about how columbia students were throwing stuff at him, turns out he's a porn star.

5. In the article he says "I don't support gay marriage."
"I don't support gay marriage. My job is to support my constituents, and that's not something they want."

He supports Minnesota's ban on same-sex marriage and voted against a gay marriage bill in 2009.

7. oh, i see, so he just wants to get elected ?
and admits it. whatever most of them support/oppose, he will do ?

does he have any chance of winning ?

it seems many conservatives are willing to elect gay people as long as they vote anti gay. David Dreier, Lindsey graham, Aaron Schock etc.

this guy is going to have a hard time finding guys to go out with him. i remember one gay conservative complaining about how liberal guys wouldn't want to see him anymore when they found out he was conservative.

but that guy and this guy aren't attractive. so they probably already have a harder time.

6. Sorry, but
If he's gay AND still Republican by choice, then he deserves all the abuse we can come up with.

9. An out gay politician goes on a date and.... ?
Don't really get why he is a Repuke...and how does a gay man have any position on abortion other than choice is beyond me, but.... he is still a gay man who went on a date.
