Christian B&B Owners Sued for Discrimination
Christian B&B Owners Sued for Discrimination

The Christian owners of a bed and breakfast in Cornwall are being sued for refusing to allow a gay couple to share a bed.

According to The Sun, the landmark suit could hold implications for religious liberty and, on a more specific level, determine what restrictions B&B and other hotel owners are allowed to impose on guests in the U.K.

“Devout Peter and Hazelmary Bull told civil partners Martyn Hall and Steven Preddy it would be ‘an affront to their faith’ if the men slept together,” the Sun reported. The owners only allow married heterosexual couples to share beds.

Hall and Preddy were offered separate singles rooms, but they left and reported the incident to the police.

The men claim the unfair treatment stemmed from their sexual orientation, and they are seeking up to £5,000 using the 2007 Equality Act Regulations.

1. I don't know about others, but if we go to a B&B we look for one that
caters. If I read in their brag sheet or adverts and they say their a Christian place I know off the bat I'm not going there I would not be comfortable nor would they. The same with a Lesbian, Sports oriented what have you that B&B it wouldn't be a good fit. B&Bs are also usually someones home, not like an impersonal hotel.

therefore not exempt from requirements for equality in services. These men are not "dating" they are registered partners and should be treated as a "married" couple.
I agree with you that if I knew for a fact that my hosts would be uncomfortable or that I would be made uncomfortable by them, I would try to find a Friendly B&B. I must say though that when I recognized that the owners of the house that I rented in Iowa for our marriage were Mormon, it was icing on the cake. We held our ceremony on the deck and "consummated" our marriage in their home. Just across the river in Illinois we could see the temple in Nouveau. Both of our mothers grinned at the idea of toasting the codification of our family on "Mormon soil". We did smudge the house the day we arrived to clear out the bad mojo.

3. I Hope This Couple Sues...
and that they win big. The B&B is a public accomodation and as such is not permitted to discriminate.

4. If you don't want unmarried people sharing beds that you own
don't offer to rent them out.
