Dan Choi hospitalized for breakdown

"we tend to bury mental health issues, always trying to pretend that everyone can just "suck it up" and bear all of life's maelstrom, and that there is inherent weakness in needing mental health services. Far from it, there are many people in desperate need of professional help in this vein who don't seek assistance because of the stigma still attached to mental health issues."

I feel bad for Dan. He's been so strong for so very long. Dan is a real life hero to me.

2. Best wishes to Dan
The general public and even social services, have no idea how damaging stress is.

My breakdown built for years and when it arrived my heart was wrecked (3x bypass) and my brain was fried (psychogenic amnesia and dissociative depersonalization).

The librul social workers at WI Workforce Development laughed at my having trouble getting a job with a PhD in Zoology (they teased me about getting an education suitable for Zookeeping--the guy was named Hustedde--and in multiple ways they called me a malingerer.

4. All oppressions are connected.
Including ableism and homophobia.

As a queer person with psychiatric disabilities, I stand in solidarity with him.

5. Take a break from everything, Dan, and get better!
Play some Playstation or go lie on a beach in Bermuda and read a book. Take six months off. You're a hero to so many people, and we need you in one piece - physically, mentally, just all-around. :)

6. I Had Read...
it was exhaustion. But whatever Lt. Choi has been hospitalised for, I hope he is better soon. We do indeed need him all in one piece--physically, mentally, and emotionally.

7. K and R. This part is truer than true:
>>>"we tend to bury mental health issues, always trying to pretend that everyone can just "suck it up" and bear all of life's maelstrom, and that there is inherent weakness in needing mental health services. Far from it, there are many people in desperate need of professional help in this vein who don't seek assistance because of the stigma still attached to mental health issues.">>>>

If I was going to split hairs , I'd say drop "professional help". Euphemism. Kinda exacerbates the problem. How bout: "shrink", "therapy", etc.

There's no big mystery. It's a friggin' miracle we're not all in padded cells.

Make no mistake: it's not us, it's them.

Sending good vibes Dan's way.
