Report from the field: my lesbian daughter showed up at her grandmother's funeral
in black shirt, black vest, red pants and assorted piercings. My extended Irish-Catholic family......

took no notice whatsoever except to literally embrace her. I introduced her especially to one cousin, the surviving sister of another cousin who died all too young of AIDS. I introduced her as "This is my gay baby" and my cousin's response was " Well come here and give me a hug, we love our gay babies here!" Another cousin promised to forward some papers left behind by my late cousin; a handing on of both family heritage and GLBT community heritage.

2. Sometimes,funerals are where healing takes place.
I'm so glad your family had a positive experience. Give your baby a hug for me, too!
