Or at least, listen to this:

I did a search for an old classmate from high school. His name can't be all that common, so I found his Facebook page. Looking at the small photo, I could just barely recognize him from his face and general age, but not well. So I looked at his friends, and one of his friends was this guy I was so hot for, but being who I was at the time, nothing ever came of that. So I'm looking at his profile, and thinking, OMG, he looks HORRIBLE - so OLD, LOL. And then I remembered, that's what happens when you're gay (me) - you meet up with former classmates and you realize, you are leaps and bounds better-preserved than any of your heterosexual classmates.

3. Could be - too much sun I think, honestly, won't go into why I think that.
Also, he was always very, very fair-skinned - more than even I am, and I've been called Caspar on more than one occasion.

2. Gay men pay more attention to their looks than straight men?
Shocking revelation.

4. I know, but it's one thing to hear people say that when you are 21;
it's another to actually confirm the truth of that when you get to be .... ahem, well, when sufficient time has passed. ;)

5. Or maybe gay men who don't think they're good looking --
the overweight or balding ones -- don't go to high school reunions.

I think women don't mind signs of aging in men, as much as they do in themselves. And men know this -- so most straight men still don't dye their hair, etc. And they're probably not afraid to turn up at reunions looking older (although they might not want to appear if they didn't view themselves as a success in other ways.)

But gay men? I don't know. You tell me.

7. heh
I went back to the little town where I grew up. I worked in the school where I graduated.
Some of my ex classmates came up to speak to me. They knew who I was but I was shocked
at how old they looked! I didn't recognize a single one of them.
Must be that gay gene thingy!

8. And it just gets worse - taking a closer look, I see that he's fat now, and
appears to be a fundamentalist Christian. :( Sad.

10. It hadn't occured to me, but it's definitely true with my class and friends
in 2009, my high school class had it's 20 year reunion. There are 4 of us from that class that are openly gay. Thinking back on it now, all 4 of us had full heads of hair, very little grey, and in overall better shape, and younger looking than anyone else in the class that showed up.

15. Yes. Most hetero guys are afraid to do anything that is considered "feminine"
so they don't moisturize.

That probably is one big reason why age appears to be so much harder on most hetero guys than it is on most gay guys.

16. I noticed the same thing in a family portrait
I have four brothers. A couple years ago my parents took a picture of the five of us.
My partner commented that the others are much older looking, and much heavier than I.
He is right.
