http://www.advocate.com/News/Daily_News/2011/06/03/Church_Upset_Over_Gay_Clergy/A small group of Presbyterian churches are attempting to block the ordination of a gay woman in San Francisco, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Supported by a small number of Presbyterian church elders in the Bay Area, Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church, along with a church in Concord, Calif. and another in Boise, Idaho, has launched an internal judicial action against the San Francisco Presbytery, one that will be heard by a national church tribunal on July 29 (the Walnut Creek church is part of the San Francisco Presbytery, which supports the ordination of gay clergy).
Pastor Morgan Murray of Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church church told the San Jose Mercury News that the ordination of openly gay clergy is "a distressing move away from the Bible as the only rule that dictates behaviors and actions."
Last month, the Presbyterian Church (USA) abolished its ban on openly gay clergy. As a result, some conservative churches within the domination, such as Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church, are considering leaving the church and joining the more conservative Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
