Lady Gaga's Gay Anthem 'Born This Way' Wins MTV Moonman
http://www.ontopmag.com/article.aspx?id=9344&MediaType=1&Category=22

Lady Gaga's gay anthem Born This Way on Sunday won best video with a message during MTV's Video Music Awards.

Born This Way won the category's first-ever Moonman statue during a pre-show event.

The new category is devoted to videos with a social conscience. Before the winner was announced, Lady Gaga told MTV News that it was an “absolute honor” to be nominated.

“During the past year, we've seen a remarkable number of artists use their music to explore deeply personal experiences and issues they were passionate about to create powerful videos that resonate with and inspire millions of their fans,” MTV President Stephen Friedman said in a statement about the new category.

4. Gaga Wins for "Best Female" While Dressed as Man

Lady Gaga took home this year's award for best female performer — after putting on a raucous show dressed as a cigarette-smoking, beer-drinking man.

Her tweak on gender identity opened the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday with a monologue in character as her male alter ego, Jo Calderone, who declared nothing real, and everything theater. Then Calderone tore off a black blazer and danced with a crew of men in white T-shirts and black pants during a rendition of "Yoü and I."

On a night when Lady Gaga's album and anthem of the same name for gay rights, "Born This Way," brought in the awards, Lady Gaga spent the entire evening as a drag king. The song beat a number of this year's biggest musical statements for gay acceptance to win Best Video with a Message, a new category.

I support her music by buying CDS for my nieces & nephews. They seem to go gaga over GAGA!

5. Pfft -- A recycling of Madonna
in more ways than one.

Is this the same MTV that pulled Anthrax's Who Cares Wins, a song about homelessness, from its Top Ten Spot on their chart because it was too "depressing?"

8. following in her footsteps, certainly; but gaga has a far better voice and message
all music builds upon other "influences".

lady gaga is clearly heavily influenced by madonna.

"recycled" implies that she doesn't build or add on to that. i'd say southside johnny and the asbury jukes are "recycled" bruce springsteen in that sense, for instance. but i think lady gaga adds quite a bit to the style of music, entertainment, and social messaging that madonna pushed in her heyday.
