Meryvn's caves in to Salvation Army

they weren't going to allow the Salvation Army to operate outside their stores but caved in

I just sent the following email to them

Just to let you know that I won't be shopping at Mervyn's any time in the near future due to the store's change in policy regarding The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army is a homophobic organization regardless of the charitable work that they do.

I will not be spending my money to support any organization that supports groups like The Salvation Army.

the Salvation Army has consistantly tried to get around local laws that require organizations that have public contracts to provide domestic partnership benefits

and they climbed into bed with the Bushies over the same issue--trying to get around local laws for "faith based" groups that got federal funding

the Salvation Army discriminates against gays. Its religious policies are homophobic. Always have been.

I've just read that you will be supporting the Salvation Army this season. As a result, I will not be shopping at Mervyn's anymore.

While the Salvation Army contributes to charities, it also promotes discrimination and homophobia. Bigotry is inconsistent with my values, as is spending my money in places that chose to support bigotry.
