Missouri signals willingness to end anti-gay foster care ban
Missouri's attorney general told reporters June 7 that the repeal this week of the state's same-sex only sodomy law means gay MiThe American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas and Western Missouri had brought suit challenging the state's ban on gay foster parents.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas and Western Missouri had brought suit challenging the state's ban on gay foster parents. The state had justified the ban by citing its sodomy law, which prohibited sex between persons of the same gender, but the ACLU argued the law was no longer enforceable after the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark decision three years ago in Lawrence vs. Texas.

"Every major mainstream child welfare and health organization opposes laws that ban lesbian and gay people from parenting because social science proves that lesbian and gay people are just as capable of being good parents as anyone else," said Lisa Brunner, an ACLU cooperating attorney.

Attorney General Jay Nixon announced June 7 that the state was dropping its appeal of a decision that a lesbian applicant was wrongly denied becoming a foster parent. But the state agency that oversees foster parenting told the St. Louis Post that it was still reviewing its options and codifying its policy on gay foster parents.

Ok, now I'm confused. "Missouri's attorney general told reporters June 7 that the repeal this week of the state's same-sex only sodomy law means gay" Didn't the U.S. Supreme Court already decide this a couple of years ago?
