'Episcopal School of Wichita Falls' school under investigation for expelling son of two lesbians
Child’s godmother filed complaint against school; Episcopal school association official says expelling student based on parent’s sexual orientation would violate policy

An Episcopal School in Wichita Falls that allegedly forced the lesbian parents of a 3-year-old boy to withdraw him unless they hid their relationship is under investigation by the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools.

Connie Wootton, executive director of the association, said a complaint was filed against The Episcopal School of Wichita Falls last fall by the child’s godmother, and that she plans to complete the investigation and make her recommendation to the association’s board of directors by May. The expulsion of a child because his or her parents are gay or lesbian would be a violation of the association’s policies, she said.

“They were not pleased by having to put all of this in writing,” Wootton said. “I think all of us knew where we were headed, but the main thing our board was concerned about was that we handle this in a way that would be the same tolerance and understanding — not to discriminate and swing completely to the other side.”

Wootton said that discrimination against a gay or lesbian student or against a student whose parents are gay or lesbian would be inappropriate for an Episcopal school.

“This is not in keeping with what an Episcopal school stands for,” Wootton said. “They are probably taking themselves out of our loop.”

4. The anglicans worldwide are already splitting over the issue of gay
rights. This just heaps one more coal on.

5. The American church IS a liberal church
Frankly, I'm astonished even a single church school would behave like this. The American Episcopal church has been ordaining women forever. IIRC, they ordained an African American woman bishop eons ago. They've been fighting for Eugene Robinson's right to be a bishop for years. They're headed by a woman.

They've been standing up to their own international church for years, and the struggle has been very difficult for them. Their stands aren't popular in other Anglican/Episcopal countries.

I'm not a believer, but the American Episcopal church has my complete respect.

6. Not sure
But IIRC, a few conservative congregations have either withdrawn from the church or threatened to withdraw.
