Proposition 8 yard signs
Ugh---I went on my daily walk (daily except for days I don't feel like walking) and found new signs--4 of them--on my street saying Yes on Prop 8. I actually saw one guy in the act of putting it up in his yard. I wonder where they all got them---at their Sunday services? Anyway I drove off to my local Democratic Headquarters and picked up a NO on Prop 8 sign. On my way home, I passed a "Yes" sign on the easement---public property. I made a U-turn and yanked it out of the ground. When I got home I tore it to bits. That felt good!! Then stuck my new No on Prop 8 sign in my front yard.

I'm so mad at those fuckers (anyone voting Yes).

1. My neighborhood is filled with No on 8 signs, with plenty on the lawns of straight couples.

3. I hadn't seen any around here---for or against
After seeing the Yes signs, I realized I had to add another sign to my yard. I'm hoping some others follow my example.

2. Got mine today & will put it up tomorrow.
Saw the first bumper sticker on a car today. Haven't seen anything else.

Straight but not narrow here.

5. I haven't seen any "Yes on 8" yard signs around here...
I have seen a few bumper stickers, though. I've seen lots of "No on 8" yard signs, soon to be joined by mine, which gives me hope.

19. Update...a few "yes on 8" signs have popped up around here...
not nearly as many as the "no on 8," though. My husband and I took down 3 of them off public property (including one right across from our driveway).

7. Last week, driving through our neighborhood...
Edited on Tue Oct-07-08 10:42 AM by keepCAblue
my partner and I saw a corner house with a small front yard and about 40 "No on 8" yard signs! We of course stopped; we wanted to thank the home's occupant for bring such high visibility to this issue (and at $8 bucks each, those 40 signs weren't cheap). Turns out we crashed this man (a chaplain at San Jose State) and his partner's party - the house was packed with people, all there to help the two men celebrate their upcoming wedding (the two have been together some 20+ years). The men were encouraging others to take a yard sign home with them before leaving and to put it up in their yards when they got home. What a fantastic idea!!

Just yesterday, we came home and found a rolled up "No on 8" bumper sticker pushed through our front door's handle, along with a note inviting us to attend a Democratic get-together to watch tonight's presidential debate. Looking around, we saw the same thing on every front door in our neighborhood. No doubt our two newly-married neighbors were the ones to come up with yet another fantastic idea on how to raise visibility for the "No on 8" campaign.

As of yet, I have not seen one "Yes on 8" yard sign or bumper sticker in our neighborhood, and only one "McCain/Palin" yard sign amidst a slew of "Obama/Biden" signs that pepper the neighborhood.

Good on you for ripping that "Yes on 8" sign up - serves the idiots right for leaving it in a public place.

8. I have a feeling
that the Yes on 8 signs may be coming from the Russian immigrant households in my neighborhood of which my community has a sizeable population. The Russian fundamentalists, as you might know, tend to be very active in opposing gay rights.

The Obama/Biden signs do outnumber the McCain/Palin signs here, about 9 to 2. I honestly don't have a feel for how people here think about Prop 8. I only moved back here a little over a year ago and the demographics are very much different (in a positive way) to what they were when I was a kid. It will interesting to see if some "No" signs pop up now that the other side is putting up theirs.

Your post has gotten me thinking, though, of perhaps doing something to raise visibility of the "No on 8" campaign here too. So, thanks for the inspiration.

9. Show your support
I did something to help raise the visibility of "No on 8" - I created at free downloadable poster at http://www.defendequalitynow.com (you can also get it on bumper stickers and yard signs). And all proceeds go to "No on 8"

And this weekend Philanthropist Steve Bing and Equality California are offering a ONE MILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE GRANT so their new ad can reach California’s undecided voters.
Every donation before midnight on Sunday, October 19 will be doubled!

10. really, the ads need to ask this:
do you consider it an American value to vote on the marriages of other Americans? How would you feel about someone voting on your marriage? We are a nation of Americans who serve in every sector of public and private life from the military to the mundane, and every American deserves the right to marry any other American for all of the reasons anybody gets married. Don't be un-American, vote No on Proposition 8.

12. yes it is the churches

also they are organizing waving by the roadside with different signs

One of the signs says Vote Yes for 8 For Religious Freedom

I wanted to stop and ask them what freedom they are currently being deprived of but was worried that I could not control my self.

13. where can I get a "NO" sign?
I'm so tired of the Yes signs and the Yes ads. Haven't we already answered the question? Isn't this a question of civil rights?

15. Oh, no!
I just had my yard sign stolen and I was just going to go out to get a replacement. (I heard the car in the middle of the night. As it roared off, my guess was that my sign just got stolen.) I'll have to make a homemade sign then and accompany it with the commandment "thou shalt not steal." ;-)

17. Maybe they got more in, or one of the outlying offices has some?
I need another myself, my neighbor swiped mine for her yard. ;) If I find them, I'll grab two.

18. I called my local branch of the Dem Headquarters
They gave me the address of a place in downtown Sacramento where I can pick one up. In the meantime, I made a homemade sign---big black marker letters against white. I'll have to bring it in at night. I didn't think of doing that; I was testing fate. ;)

22. Did you get another sign?
I scored a pile of window signs (the rigid cardboard ones a bit smaller than a yard sign) if you want one.

23. I am still using my homemade sign
Going all the way to 7th and K (where I was told I could get a sign) is too far for me to get to right now. I live in Rancho Cordova.

Sure, I'd go with a window sign if you have one to give away. I might attach it to the tree though rather than put it in the window. I am for visibility to combat the plethora of Yes on 8 signs in my neighborhood.

21. yes on prop 8 is doing door to door canvasing
a gal from my work told he her story--they asked if she knew about prop 8 and then even after she said she knew and was voting no, they offered her a sign, bumper sticker, and reading material.
