I know of plenty of gay Christians.

11. Well of course not
As soon as a gay person becomes Christian, the Holy Spirit will cure them of that impurity and they'll become straight.

Kind of odd, when you think about it. The Holy Spirit will cure the dreaded homosexuality, but not cancer, ebola, or even the common cold.

3. A silent church...
would be great. We're all tired of them and their criminal acts.

5. What a horribly bigoted article. I'm struggling to understand why you posted it here.
I don't see the reason for posting homophobic and hateful articles against gay people in a GLBT forum on a progressive site.

6. Agreed.
I really don't see how this article can serve to educate or enlighten anyone here, and it makes me doubt the OP's motives.

7. In the spirit of knowing what your enemies are up to, I'm ok with this being posted.
I had no idea that this meme was being pushed among RW christians.

8. Maybe what bugs me is that the OP is basically saying the same thing
that the article is claiming that we are saying, that he would want to criminalize speech from religion:

"if only religion would be criminalized.at least lies in the name of"

This is exactly what that bigoted article is claiming is behind hate-crime legislation. They're not hate crime laws, they're "thought crime laws." :eyes:

And I don't really want to link from here to an article posted at an EXTREME right-wing site like Worldnetdaily. If I want to know what they are thinking, I can go to their site, or Freerepublic, myself and check it out.

I think we all know that right-wing fundamentalist Christians (A very small minority of Christians, by the way) do not support hate-crime legislation that protects gay people. And it doesn't surprise me one bit that they go so far as to cry about how we want to "criminalize Christianity." What good does it do to post it here, without any rebuttal to it, or any connection to anything else?

9. To tell the truth
I'm not sure what the OP meant with this line "if only religion would be criminalized.at least lies in the name of". I can't make heads or tails of it. Seems to be two incomplete sentences or something.

10. I had to read it a few times as well... my interpretation is this:
"If only religion could be criminalized. At least we should criminalize lies that are spread in the name of religion."

Which of course is ridiculous, and exactly what the linked article is claiming we are trying to do. Yes, gay rights are all about getting rid of the first amendment. Then we have only 26 more to go.

12. They use the same arguments that White Supremacists use
Instead of it being "affirmative action" that's destroying the white man, it's the "homosexual agenda" that's "destroying" Christianity. Both attitudes essentially are to culture what protectionism is to economics -- they want traditionally dominant cultural norms to receive special protection against competition from new ideas and new cultural norms.

14. I don't think any gays want to criminalize christianity
although I would love to criminalize the mental and emotional abuse that comes from fundamentalism and to hold god to account for his misdeeds.

I want to hold christianity accountable for the crimes committed under its rubrick. As well as hold god accountable for all his crimes. but not make being a christian a crime itself. I know quakers and other christians that are repulsed by the crimes of god and all his followers that abuse others.

17. I am being hyperbolic
but since I don't believe in god that leaves only followers.

When you call a bank do you need to know how all the departments work before you can ask them to send you another box of checks?

Why should we need to know all about good christians and bad christians in order to live our lives free from interference by either?

If someone tells me they're christian as the first qualifier in our interaction, all bets are off. It's irrelevant to anything to do with my life or my goals. Not being a grouch really - just trying to keep my life secular, and not influenced by the mores of religion.

Thus if "the bank", or christianity, or any other credo decides to screw up some element of my life, it is the fault of "the bank" of "christianity", or whatever value system guided some unthinking human to try to criminalize my life.

We don't have time or luxury of splitting hairs. It's about human and civil rights, not flavors of religion.
