This week, Dean Ralph O'Connell met with the head of a national organization of gay doctors

2. You know, medicine is not an exact science, but
the good people at NY Medical College are learning all the time. Why, just fifty years ago, they thought a disease was caused by demonic possession or witchcraft. But nowadays NY Medical College doctors know that disease is the result of an imbalance of bodily humors, perhaps caused by a toad or a small dwarf living in a person's stomach.

4. Hey, now GodlessBiker, there may be something to the dwarf thing.
Of course if there isn't, they would just call it "imaginary dwarf syndrrome." Not a good place to have your toncils out!

5. Very funny, but ...
... NY Medical College is considered a respectable school, not just by religious crazies.

The problem is not just screwball fundies. Homophobia is deeply ingrained in our culture, especially when the Roman Catholic Church is concerned.

There was a similar flap at Fordham University, no less, about ten years back. That's a Jesuit school, BTW.

The hypocrisy is breathtaking.

I grew up in New York City in the 1970s. It was by no means a fundie town at the time, no more than now. Indeed any kind of serious fundie was completely marginalized. Or invisible.

I couldn't have told you the meaning of the word "fundamentalist".

But I got beat up many times for being a faggot. Junior Mafia types, fellow students. Whatchoo lookin' at faggot?

They were nominally Catholic, but hardly churchgoing. But I could say the same about myself.

So go slap fundies around all you want, but understand they are not the only problem. Maybe not even the main problem.

It may vary according to part of the country.
