Prostate cancer vaccine has another successful clinical trial
Jacksonville - With improved cancer treatments in recent years and the introduction of some promising drugs such as Gardasil, which is a vaccine against some types of cervical cancer, there is a growing hope for those suffering from this potentially deadly disease. The latest miracle drug may just be coming for prostrate cancer patients.

According to Dendreon, a biotech company in Seattle, their prostate cancer vaccine Provenge has had another successful clinical trial.

While this is undoubtedly good news for those afflicted with prostrate cancer, it does come in a long line of controversy surrounding Provenge. For the past two years, the FDA has failed to approve Provenge, despite some endorsements from its own advisory committees, sparking protests from prostate cancer patients who wanted access to the potentially life-saving drug.

The FDA’s complaints with Provenge related to the quality of the first study documented by Dendreon. The study only followed 127 men, and the premise of the study initially stated a desire to see if Provenge would postpone the progression of the cancer, while the results boasted of prolonging life. With these issues, the FDA requested more evidence before approving the drug.

2. And a vaccine beginning clinical trials in Australia...
to possibly cure Celiac disease (gluten intolerance). Vaccines are clearly one of the miracle medical tools of our age.

3. i think one can make a reasonable argument that life
would be a good deal more difficult were it not for vaccines.

notice how this vaccine attracts little attention?

6. I have stage four cancer. While these vaccines are indeed
promising, unfortunately when they talk about "prolonging life" we are talking about giving you weeks and or months of progression free life. They consider a drug a success if it can be shown to give you even four or five months of added life. They are not a cure.

While great strides are being made, cures for cancer in most cases are far off.

8. How did you know I liked to fish? I love to fish!
Haven't been able to this spring yet. I am just now starting back on chemo/radiation. The last two go rounds landed me in the hospital for three weeks. I am hoping to avoid that this time.

I think it's a habit I got as a child in England. I still remember my grandma telling me I couldn't live on fish 'n chips. Oh yes I could have. :D

14. Prostrate cancer runs in my family - this could be a huge benefit to people like me
Prostate cancer runs rampant in the males in my family. My father, 2 paternal uncles, grandfather, and great-grandfather all had it. None have yet died, but a vaccine would be a huge thing for us.
