lung cancer
Long time reader never posted was trying to post to cancer groups but the Fucking mercenary donation requirement sounds like a freeper money thing so fuck you all on this. If we had any fucking money left maybe we would donate . We did donate $1100.00 to Kerry and Obama. I thought I could maybe get support from this site which previously had seemed to have folks like minded like us. I just found out I have lung cancer and I'm scared and don't know what to do. I have served this country in the Army and got fucked by them and now because of a fucking money donation requirement I'm marginalized again. People in my circumstance don't have a lot of extra cash but maybe just maybe we could be heard too. I just wanted some support from another human being. SO FUCK DU FUCK NIXON FUCK BUSH FUCK IVY LEAGUE ASSHOLES AND FUCK YOUR FUCKING MONEY REQUIREMENTS FUCK AGENT ORANGE FUCK BEING EXPOSED TO PCB'S FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCKING D.U. MONEY LEECHES SORRY I GUESS FOR THE RANT BUT MONEY FOR A CANCER SUPPORT GROUP?????? THIS REALLY SUCKS.

1. I am sorry that you have cancer.
My first husband died from lung cancer. I hope you have some other support. And if you cannot get into that group, others here might lend you a hand. They will also pray for you and send vibes. I will do that, too.

Thanks again I just have felt people here who care and the donation requirement seems like a poll tax. Lots of good people are broke and also "brokedown".

Welcome to DU. I'm so sorry you're going through this, era vet. My dad, a Vietnam vet, recently was diagnosed with advanced liver cancer out of the blue: non-smoker, non-drinker, fitness "nut" for four decades. I'm sending you light and many, many good vibes.

5. Thanks Heidi
We live in Kentucky. It is pretty red except here in Lexington which is a lot more progressive than the rest of the state BUT think of what we provide to the nation: Tobacco, whiskey, marijuana, horse racing/gambling,and soldiers. What we don't have is much money shitty leadership, and we suffer to be the butt of too many stereotypical hill jack jokes. What we have is the worst health care in the nation. Cancer and addiction are frequent topics. Lost hope , broken dreams, and broken families are too common. So if the intertube support groups like on D.U. charge admission you skew the real result/data by eliminating the poor.So how can we forget so many people? If I live I'll make money again so I could pay up BUT what about the generational poor? Lost people lost dreams.

8. I'm so sorry era veteran......
There are so any of us that have no insurance or financial backup and its scary enough when we are (relatively) healthy. I'm trying to hang in til I can get on medicare...have about a half dozen years to go....

I agree that support groups should not exclude anyone....it really does suck in so many ways.

Many of us can't do much to help...sure don't have much to help with, but sometimes an angel will send a star your way...keep checking.

10. Go to a medical support site, not a political site.
This site doesn't permit the giving of medical advice, anyway, so if you're newly diagnosed, that's what you'll want.

If you're a long time reader, you might read the rules and not insult the people running the site. That's not going to help you.

You can read the special groups, you just can't post to them. It's the way it is. This is a private forum, not a public service website.

Go here for online and other support: http://www.lungcanceronline.org/support/services.html

Good luck. Stop yelling. It doesn't help your diagnosis.

12. Medical care is political
Don't you read the paper? Poor people get shitty medical care if any. I appreciate the good luck you wrote but stop yelling??? I will not go quietly when health care is given on a basis of filthy money rather than practical need. The emergency rooms here are where poor people go for all medical treatment. Draft dodger Cheney gets great FREE treatment. So YOU don't tell me not to yell,,, I will fucking scream at the inequities in this country.

14. Medical ADVICE is not permitted here. That's not MY rule--it's a DU admins rule.
Look, I feel sorry for your situation. But telling the site owners to fuck off because you don't like their rules is completely unhelpful and violates the DU rules here. When you write it in all caps, that's YELLING at them to fuck off.

I've given you a link that has within it links to online and in-person lung cancer support sites--these are sites that are specific to your condition. If you really want to talk about your diagnosis, get help, advice, reassurance, learn how others are coping, and interface with people who have the EXACT SAME DISEASE that you have, you want to go there rather than screaming fuck fuck fuck on a political forum where no one is allowed to give you any medical advice--per the rules here.

I sincerely wish you luck. I urge you to get proactive and go to places where you can get the advice and understanding you plainly need and deserve. This forum doesn't have an overwhelming number of lung cancer sufferers--a support site dealing with that very disease will.

26. I was not looking for medical advice
I was looking for support which I figured was the mission of a CANCER SUPPORT GROUP I was not looking for Medical Advice, those were your words so don't put lies out about my needs . You do understand the difference don't you??? I will get advice from an oncologist. I was hoping for empathy among the people I feel closest to in the country. SO MADem your argument is as fucking specious as Rush Limpdick. Please go somewhere else.

16. Have you looked into the VA for Health coverage? By your
words, it seems as if you have had a problem with them. I am under the impression that anyone who served in the Military is eligible unless they were dishonorably discharged.. The VA served my husband well through several medical situations and he received not only physicals but 2 minor surgery's thru the VA. We paid minor deductibles and office fees per year and 9 dollars a month for each of his pills.

34. It's not that simple.
"I am under the impression that anyone who served in the Military is eligible unless they were dishonorably discharged."

Nope. I am an honorably discharged vet, not eligible for their health care. My ex did 4 years, honorably discharged, and ended up flying to the Soviet Union to get surgery because the VA wouldn't do it for him and he didn't have a job with insurance. It was cheaper to fly to Moscow and have the surgery there - the one way the military helped him was in giving him the Russian language training. We learned a good lesson about the cold war there.

Heck, there was a time when I was a full-time civilian for the army 40 hours a week - federal employee, not a contractor - AND I was in the Army reserves on the weekends, and I wasn't eligible for their health insurance through either job.

We were promised in 1973 medical care for life, they lied.I'll always be bitter. OH I'm Hon Discharged & permanently disabled. More horror stories complete Pathos not tonight.

37. maybe I'm wrong, but perhaps contact your congressman
about this mess. They are good at unraveling red tape.

When my mother's medicare B was "accidentally" taken away, my local congressman's office
got it straighted out in about a week.

It would have taken months for me to navigate the red tape, if at all.

Sorry about what you are going through.

Sometimes congressmen can help their constituents.

Also, pain management is not looked upon very scientifically still, even in hospitals.

I've taken my mother to the hospital for her heart, only to see the idiots depriver her of her pain meds, which she takes several times a day. They just didn't give them too her, not because of her heart, but because they are stupid.

So if I take her to the hospital, I take her pain meds and I make it clear that if the docs don't medicate her I will, and then they come running.

39. I am so sorry I misunderstood your post. You do have the kind
thoughts of all who post here. Life throws us some real duzy's and the results are not always fair.

I cannot help but wonder what the VA uses as eligibility requirements. With your background in the Service, one would think.....

My best wishes for all to go well for you. I agree that a fee for joining a support group is insensitive. I didn't check your profile to see where you are from. Perhaps if you post in your state group here on DU, someone who reads that group will be able to tell you about some facility near you that can offer you the support you seek.

35. One other set of suggestions
Dialing 211 if you need help with any type of social services as a result of this - whether money going to treatments means you need to find food banks, day care, you name it.

Also, Veterans for Peace, if you don't already know them - we have a pretty strong network of people willing to help out other area vets as needed. The veterans forum on DU also has some pinned links for additional resources for vets.

21. I'm so sorry about your situation.
Don't worry about your rant. It's very normal to lash out in anger when you're scared. If you Google "Cancer Support Groups", you'll get lots of info, and can choose the group that's best for you.

If you're having problems with the Army/VA, contact your elected representatives for help. If that doesn't work, write a letter to the editor, contact a local tv/radio news service. Make a lot of noise. The squeeky wheel gets the oil. Also, contact your local veterans groups for support.

Good luck. Keep us posted. There are a lot of people here who do care and will help if we can.

it really sucks no doubt!

I lost my mother & my younger brother to cancer a year apart. This was within the past five years.

It was sheer hell for them and for the rest of my family.
