Teen diagnoses her own disease in science class
Her doctors, no matter how hard they tried, couldn't figure out the cause of Jessica's abdominal distress.

Then one day in January, Terry, 18, figured it out on her own.

In her Advanced Placement high school science class, she was looking under the microscope at slides of her own intestinal tissue -- slides her pathologist had said were completely normal -- and spotted an area of inflamed tissue called a granuloma, a clear indication that she had Crohn's disease

5. Since she is evidently interested in science she probably
asked the doctor for the slides - an intellectual curiosity.

6. Why not?
I mean that's what the insurance companies have been telling the public all along...you're on your own.

3. Same goes for fixing your own automobiles and many other
things that take time and effort to diagnose. Kudos to the girl for making the effort.

7. sometimes you have to do your own research
I saw a physician once for my hypothyroidism, and he did a series of blood tests..one of the tests picked up a mild form of anemia..he called me into his office and berated my vegan diet, assuring me that I didnt have enough B12...
I went home and researched anemia and hypothyroid disorders..yep, there it was...hypothyroidism can cause a mild anemia in many patients.
I had my B12 levels checked..they were fine.
I printed the info out and gave it to the doc. he didnt even know.
