3. Martin Luther King Jr. political party?
Sorry if this isn't the right forum for this, but I'm having a war with trolls on another forum over MLK jr's having ever been a Republican or not. It's hard to find a credible source for the info. Anybody know? Was he ever a rep? A dem? thanks.

4. He was a Republican
But keep in mind that Republicans and Democrats took different positions back in the 60s. Democrats back then still favored a smaller government, while Republicans were still considered interventionists. Once the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was put into effect, the Dixiecrats and other racists jumped ship to the Republican party, where they remain to this day.

But even then if you do some Wikipedia and Google research, King started to become a bit more disgruntled with capitalism. At the end of his life, he made it quietly known that he favored a democratic socialist approach to solving inequality problems. I'm not saying that's a bad thing (I think it's a good thing) but it shows you that King wasn't a conservative by any means.
