Lets talk about 65 plus and income tax?
How many of us do not file federal/state income tax and why not?

Us. We do not have enough taxable income to file.

1. You're lucky
our income decreased by half but our taxes last year, after the cuts, came up to $2400 OVER AND ABOVE what had already been withheld. We expect it to be more this year. With no increase in income.

3. My husband is
we can't afford to retire. But he was out of work for 2 years and then the job he did get now pays half what he was making before. The way things are, we aren't going to be able to afford to retire. My husband is going to have to work until he dies and then I'll be lucky not to be out on the street because I do not qualify for SS, medicare (any part) or disability. I did in 2000 but when my 2001 statement came, all it had on it was zeros.

4. No. If you are sadly
widowed you will get husbands SS?

I have been disabled for years. My taxable income is puny. Might even say laughable.

8. I am 66 and still working, plus collecting SS.
So last year, I had to pay $330 in tax. For some unknown reason, I got a refund of $240 in state tax. I can't afford to retire yet. I'm trying to build up my 401K.
