I just can't believe what some men on that thread are saying.

We haven't come a long way baby.

1. I agree.
I always wonder if some of these posters are trying to defend their own assaults. I'm always happy to see all the strong women who refuse to back down against the assault. That thread is better than many I've seen. I think we are making some progress on this board.

2. It is appalling. I asked one of the rapist-defenders
what he would think about the scenario of a 16 year old boy getting drunk, passing out and being gang-banged by 4 adult men.... he hasn't responded.

3. sheesh,,,, I can't stand to read that debate about this subject,,,,
My Sister was raped & beaten (years ago),,,,, I sat with her in court and listened to the jerk's defense attorney for days,,,,, all in all it was a horrible experience for her (again),,,, I decided then, that unless a female is younger than 13 or older than 65,,, married or a nun,,,, they should get personal counseling to deal with it and group counseling for support,,,, but to go into a court of law and be publicly humiliated & lied about is truly another form of victimization,,,,

I think women should form Midnight Riders groups to take care of rapists & women beaters!!

4. Men have no reason to deal with the rapists among them
because the threat of rape is what keeps us afraid and in line.

The courts rape the victim all over again, whether or not the shield laws are intact. Look at how fast they were discarded in the Kobe Bryant case. Defense attorneys sling mud and the judge just says, "strike that" like the jury aint supposed to remember it.

Every victim I know who has pressed charges has said if it ever happened again, she wouldn't press charges again because the system is so horribly biased against rape victims.

And yeah, we really should consider whether or not this system can ever treat us fairly and consider alternatives to it.

I could go on :(

5. I got halfway through it...
and couldn't read any more.

I couldn't believe what a lot of people were saying, on all sides of the issue. (As if there were more than one side..)

People were talking past each other, and arguing about things they probably actually agreed on. Not at all unusual with such a highly charged topic.

6. have you read the book "Lucky"
by Alice Seybold?

Very good book, the true story of her rape and the trial of the rapist. Some is very hard to read, but I am glad I did.

7. Scary
And they tell us that it is sexist to be afraid of men raping us, even though there are rapists and others who think that it is alright. Sometimes, I think that I should avoid even reading threads like these.

8. How sad. Fucking sad
that these people would waste a minute of time to defend anyone who admits to doing what these guys admitted.

Sexual assault is sexual contact (NOT penetration) without consent. A woman legally intoxicated (drunk enough to not pass a DUI test) cannot give consent to sexual activity. How hard is that? I worked two years as an advocate to women who had been assaulted, and never once witnessed a case of sexual assault that was successfully prosecuted. This is why. People refuse to believe sexual assault is anything more than She-Asked-For-It-and-Boys-Will-Be-Boys-Anyway.

10. Some of these guys are idiots.
But just keep telling them why they are wrong and they might
just learn in the end...
