Marketing study find Mac users think they're better than the average
Edited on Sun May-11-08 04:54 PM by Lost-in-FL
Found this link at a Mac forum.

According to a new marketing study, if you own a Mac, you might want to slap yourself. Mindset Media surveyed 7,500 computer users in 20 different personality traits, such as self-esteem, pragmatism and modesty. They found that Mac owners pretty much personify the Mac guy from the commercials. Among other things, they think they're more extraordinary than the average Joe. That's according to Mindset co-founder Sarah Welch.

The survey revealed that Mac users often describe themselves as perfectionists. They're also more likely than PC users to whiten their teeth, drive hybrids, drink Starbucks coffee and eat organic food. Nitty-gritty research like this helps companies craft an advertising message around their customer's mindset. Again, marketing analyst Marissa Gluck.

After taking an honest look in the mirror, I too realized that the Mac cliche is fitting: perfectionist, Starbucks drinker, organic eater, and yes, even a bit superior. Not surprisingly, I own a Mac, sigh.

I love my jeans and sneakers, sip my occasional latte at Starbucks but I don't think I'm better than anyone and often eat organic products. I do not own a hybrid (not yet) and I'm far from being a perfectionist. I think this article is ridiculous and is trying to drive sales of Mac computers using the "elitists" meme. What you think?

1. Lets see, don't like Starbucks that much
rather drink my lattee at a local bidness, or a smaller chain

I do drive a hybrid, we got it well before the Mac, hell we started thinking hybrid in 2000, well before a Mac was a gleam on anybody's eyes

I am a perfectionist

I do drink organic, when we can afford it...

And yes, you are right, except that this is exactly how marketing people think

WHAT IS MY DEMOGRAPHIC? And though you will not fit into it 100% the fact that you do partially means they have it partially there

And yes marketing is at times bull, but when well done, it is good

As to elitist... most win users see mac users that way anyway so the perception is out there

2. We think we are better because we are...
But then so do the few PC users I know.

No on teeth, no on starbucks.

Yes on hybrid and yes on organic foods, where possible.

I won't buy into using the "elitist" label, it's too often misapplied and doesn't fit my personal definitions because I don't have money and don't pontificate among my peers, at least one of which criteria would be required.

Yes, I think they're playing up a theme.

5. sorry I didn't see your reply sooner
We have an all in one printer scanner 1400 series. The mac recognizes the printer only. We have downloaded a couple of drivers but still can't get the mac to recognize the scanner.
I was wondering if we should uninstall and start all over.

11. Do you read macrumors.com?
Spend a little time reading the comment threads there: the abundant stupidity on display is a good antidote to any feelings of Mac user superiority one might have.

12. Read it per your hint BUT
I am just a Mac (since 1982) - no IPhone, not a heavy ITunes user -- am still a happy Mac especially as I hear so many PC friends wrestling with viruses that they never dreamed they had and strange problems trying to upgrade etc.

You just gotta getta Mac to become REALLY happy and conflict free.

But I do admit I do not "do" the apps reported in the recommended site.
