How do you store your coffee, in a cool, dry place or in the freezer?
I've been storing my beans for years in the freezer, thinking that would maintain freshness. Then I read on a Dunkin' Donuts bag of coffee that this is a no-no.

1. Cool and dry, but never refrig or freezer
And keep it as sealed as you are able, but in glass or its original container.

No one has ever said this, and it may well be in my mind, but I swear if it is stored in plastic - like a zip lock bag or tupperware - it gets a chemical taste. I postulate this is true because of the chemical affinity of plastic and food oils - the plastic imparts its flavor to the coffee's essential oils, just the same as a bag (or t-ware container) used to store coffee takes on a coffee smell that can't be removed.

2. I think you're only supposed to freeze the beans if
they've been ground.

3. many say don't freeze the beans but it can be done

if your beans are FRESH roasted and you use them within 10 days of roasting, a dark airtight container is fine for storage (a crockery jar with a gasket sealed top is perfect)

if (like most people) you don't receive your beans within 48 hours of roasting or roast them yourself as needed, keeping them in the freezer is fine.

they will degrade from being in the air quickly anyway you keep them without special (and expensive) packaging to keep the oxygen out of the container. you will lose some of the oils by freezing but not enough to make a huge difference. just try to keep as much air as possible out of the package. if you have a vacuum sealer that is the best you can hope for and freezing them in that packaging is fine.

coffee is a picky beast, but once the beans have been roasted they will lose their flavor and stabilize in just a few days. anything after 5-6 days of roasting won't degrade them any further

freeze away!

4. In the bag the coffee came in.
I buy it by the 3-lb bag at Costco, grind it there, then store it in the cabinet over the STOVE!

5. Cool dry place, grind as needed
in a canister...glass or cardboard with lid so no yucky plastic contamination (same with milk, only of course the milk is in the fridge)

7. in a big glass jar with a tightly sealed lid....
I live in a cool climate, so I just leave it on top of the refrigerator, out of the sun.
