Alright, am I COMPLETELY insane?
You know when you get that really really baked on crap from a hot saute on your skillets? I mean REALLY on there? I have found that the quickest way to lose it is.....Easy Off. I used it last night on my 12" All Clad Copper Core skillet and it shines it up perfectly. What do you all think? Is my skillet just going to come apart in the sink someday?

1. You actually use
something that caustic on an item that actually contains the food? I use mostly cast iron-it's not supposed to shine.

2. I'd never use it on cast iron as it's
porous and reactive. I maybe insane but not a moron. :7

3. All it does is add
a little ferric oxide to your diet. Once you break in a cast iron skillet and get a good glaze on it, it wipes clean with minimal effort. Read about what too much copper and aluminum do to you.

5. I think you misread my post.
I USE cast iron all the time. I have my grandmothers old skillet and it has a 75 year old season on it. What I said was, I would never use Easy Off on the cast iron.

6. I call you to a duel.
My grandmother's 75 year old cast iron skillet against yours. :)

I use Bar Keepers Friend for the All Clad stainless. Works well although I don't know how it compares to Easy-Off.

4. Try using Bar Keeper's Friend
I'd be very hesitant to use Easy Off on a food contact surface. Bar Keeper's Friend uses a mild acid coupled with a very mild abrasive to not only break gunk off stainless and copper, but to shine it, too. It is *specifically* made for use on stainless and copper.

7. It can be used on stainless
and for a few other applications besides ovens. I've used it on the tempered glass door on my woodstove, for instance, when the door has been caked with glop that has become welded on.

I don't think I'd use it unless I were absolutely desperate, though. over time, it may start to pit the stainless and cause even more food to stick.

Thanks for the reminder of why I hated stainless steel frypans.

8. I'm not someone who baby's my pots and pans
I've used Easy Off on the outside of my stainless when they get beyond the help of Barkeeprs Friend. (Love that product). I think I've done it about once a year or so. My pots look fine.

There's nothing more that I love but to spend money on kitchen equipment....So I guess I wouldn't mind if it ate through a pan or two......I'll have an excuse to try something new.

BTW: My Wolfgang Puck Stainless Set I bought over three years ago...Looks Great! And I use it every day.

10. I love my Puck cookware too and use it daily
BK Friend keeps it looking great AND! I figured out a pot rack for the new kitchen for $20

a 6' steel plumbing pipe fit into a couple 2x4's on top of the cabinets that surround the window, a few stainless 'O' rings and some 'S' hooks and it looks great and keeps my pots high enough not to close off the window and out of my minimal cupboard space

pics soon.....

How's the unpacking going?

Everything make the trip okay? Staying cool and hydrated as you sort through the chaos?

amiably,

13. hiya Tygr!
:hi:

I am the packing QUEEN! haven't found a single broken anything and the kitchen is done as are a lot of the knicky kncky stuff. DH laughed at me as he watched me pack but I'm glad I did it and not him or we wouldn't have had any glassware left

and this is heaven compared to Phoenix weather wise. My handymen who are putting in the new floors are amazed I won't shut the house down and turn on the A/C until it's in the mid 80s in the house

wimps....

9. When we gutted our kitchen two years ago
Edited on Mon Jul-17-06 04:28 PM by Puglover
during the YEAR (read that again, the year) I was without a kitchen I promised myself I would not bring a crappy pan into the new kitchen so I shopped on Ebay for All Clad. Got some great prices too. I started out buying the copper pans but they are high HIGH maintenance. I switched to cop-r-core and love them. My 12" skillet is one of my fav things. It developes a fond better than any pan I've ever used.

11. The easy way? Put water in the skillet..turn on the fire..
put a lid on it, and let it sit until the water is cool to the touch.. a nylon scrubbie usually will do the trick..

coarse sea salt on the damp surface works well too..(with a scrubbie)

oven cleaner CAN damage the surface and make it MORE likely to stick...plus, who know what chemical reaction you set in motion.. :eyes:
