Just a question - couldn't resist! :-)
Do vicious flame-fests and raging arguments ever break out in the Cooking and Baking Group like they do in the political forums?

"What the hell do you mean, you can't believe it's not butter!!!!!?????? I TOLD YOU IT'S NOT BUTTER!!!!!! TASTE IT AGAIN!!"

I imagine it is probably pretty nice in here. I'm a political wonk who loves cooking and kitchen gadgets. Maybe I ought to spend more time in here and less in the political forums getting angry.

Hi everyone! :hi:

3. you don't have to bookmark it, just add it to "My Groups" by clicking
the DU Groups link at the top, then hit the link "add to my groups" next to our little group and voila! it's on the left side of the page under all the "regular" forums :D

4. It is done!
Thanks! I am drooling over all the food discussion already. Is weight gain typically a problem after joining? :-)

6. No, but pocket book fatigue is
from all the cool cooking gadgets that get talked about and then I find I simply cannot live without. H2S is the main offender.

9. I have had that form
of fatigue. Most recently due to a new black onyx Kitchenaid Mixer - the "biggun".

Drool.

5. This is the safest, friendliest, forum on DU.
For me, it is a refuge. I don't even know (nor do I care to know) the specific politics of anyone in here. The fact that they're on DU at all is "credential" enough for me. LBN, GD, GDPol, Frame the Debate, and the Clark forum are where I usually go when I'm not here, but this seems to have become my home. As AZDD6 said, the only flames in here are from the BBQ.

The other groups tend to raise my blood pressure. Not so much from flames (I choose not to engage) but from the steady stream of bad news that comes from the alternate universe in which we now seen to be living. If we could harness all that negative energy, we could find a new heat source for cooking!

So welcome to our refuge! In the (immortal?? ha!) words of Wolfgang Puck .... "Eat, Live, Love".

7. This forum is a refuge.
I have never seen an angry or insensitive post here. I think allot of us are sick at heart about what is happening to our country. Food and home are a refuge from that. I am fortifying my refuge with the help of my fellow DU'ers in order to be able to make it through the next four years.

Welcome to Cooking and Baking :hi:

12. I agree entirely...
I like to keep up with the politics, but every so often find myself becoming fairly consumed with the negativity. I decided it was best to step away for a while, and visit some of the non-political forums.

I hung out in the pets group for a while, but then I kept wanting to adopt more animals.

11. Hi Vektor!
:hi: I feel very fortunate to have so many great groups to join at DU. This group is a place to get away from the madness for a while and take refuge in the wonderful world of food.

13. Food. Goooooood.
I am kind of a Thai and Indian food nut myself. Would like to trade fairly simple recipes with other foodies. Most of the really good ethnic foods have 1,000,000 exotic, hard-to-find ingredients...

A happy medium would be great. :-)

19. lol; I must be losin' it...
Or maybe my computer glitched and the message didn't post. Yeah, let's go with that one...I KNOW I at least typed it!

I made a joke about "never say never" and stated that if we ever do have a flame fest it'll be something like a person posting in response to someone else's recipe saying, "I tried your recipe, and it tasted like crap!"

Anyway, it's a pretty lame joke (yours was MUCH funnier), but I wouldn't think of it as offensive!

Besides, I think when you get deleted there's just the word "delete" in the place where the message was.

Geez, I guess I'm a little paranoid; I kind of got my feelings hurt a little bit yesterday morning, so now I'm jumping at shadows. It would figure I'd be the first (and only) poster ever to be deleted from the cooking group...

I also wanted to say that I love this group, and I've NEVER been what I would consider a cook, or chef! I'll try to get out of cooking more often than not, but I really enjoy coming here and talking about it!

Welcome! :hi:

20. Tee-hee
No, that was funny, not offensive at all. Though I suppose there would be some sort of funny, dubious honor in being banned from the Cooking and Baking group for inflammatory behavior - not that I am even going to attempt to gain that honor. Also, yes, there would be a "deleted message" tag if your post was yanked. I think you are a-ok!
