That's very sweet of you, but... it was delayed AGAIN

Showed up, got prepped for surgery, IVs, on the gurney and ready to roll, they did all their preliminary blood tests, and for some reason my platelet count has been dropping like a rock, to the point where they didn't want to do it, or I'd likely die on the surgical table (because that would mean the blood couldn't coagulate, and I would just bleed out). So, I'm glad we caught it, but I then spent all day there doing tests as to figure out WHY it was dropping like a rock, and have to be back in Wednesday for more tests, and maybe a biopsy, and the earliest we will try again for surgery is in about 4 weeks.

Sorry for the dalay - none of us were too thrilled, having coordinated our schedule around it. But it beats dying. I guess we have to solve this other problem first before we can go ahead. Which sucks - I was finally mentally prepared to go forward. On the other hand, the surgeon was alert enough to check this stuff out, although he could have done a blood test last week.

Whatever.

I guess you're stuck with me for a few more weeks. Maybe I'll just get the surgery over (maybe) and let everyone know after the fact.

I know our emotions here are just like a rollercoaster at this point. Stress to the breaking point, theoretical relief, and then back right where we started again.

No more tonight though - I'm emotionally burnt. Maybe over the weekend.

You're good friends. I love you all.

In the meantime - next question - different thread - but should a pistachio that doesn't want to be opened allowed to escape it's fate?

Maybe we'll do that tomorrow.

Love,

- Tab

1. Pistachios are subversives. Smash them with a hammer if they refuse to be opened
A big-assed hammer.

2. I'm not sure if i want to be annoyed on your behalf or pleased that you weren't put at risk
I do know it's a colossal disappointment to think you're moving forward and getting something DONE and find out its all on hold again. It truly sucks. I'm glad that they did fresh testing before proceeding. If your counts are that mobile you really do want the best info available, and who knows what the results would have been last week...I hope they find some quick answers regarding the platelet counts. It's time to solve problems and move forward.

As for the other...The pistachio is a gonna be just a memory if it's in Bill's vicinity.
That man can wail on a bag of pistachios. No quarter is given. U N L E S S it's just not fully growed up yet. ;)

4. OK - here's what you do when you're rested ..........
Put something nice and edible on the counter.

Turn your back for a minute.

You'll be back here bitching all normal like, and we'll be set for the next four weeks.

SERIES!111!! Chin up. The delay sucks, but ........... well, rats, there's nothing to say.

Rest. Just rest and come back here and talk about food. That's just good for you................

5. Re the pistachio...
Depends. A pistachio that is so determined to hold on to its shell that it would require your having to get up and go get a hammer or some other torturous tool... I'd say yeah, let it go. If it just needs some coaxing... well, that's another matter.

I'm so sorry things did not go as planned for your today but it's probably for the best. Get some rest, enjoy the upcoming weekend, take care of yourself and hopefully, you can find some peace amidst it all.

We all love you too, Tab, and want the best for you.

7. I can't even begin to imagine what you're going through
But at least today is the first day of Spring and you're not in the hospital. So, enjoy the day and when you're ready for the surgery you should be stronger to endure it.

:loveya:

8. Well, the good news is...

that you're still here... yea!!!

the bad news is you're waxing all philosophical on us...

Take the tough old nut and and give it a prime spot on the shelf until you have a solution.
If it opens on its own, it was meant to be. but me? I'd put it on the deck and let a squirrel have some fun!

9. I was just tossing out a quick analogy. My personal feeling on pistachios

(and I'd probably get arrested as a U.S. Interrogator)

There is no redeeming value to clamming up. If they don't want to give up their nut, and you want it badly enough, then use whatever means necessary to make it open and give up what it has to give.

On some of them, you have to assume it's not worth the effort, on others, and this may be simply the emotional mood of the interrogator, not the pistachio itself, whatever is necessary short of destroying the nut itself (although sometimes this may be satisfying in its own way - which is why I shouldn't work as a prison guard).

I have no philosophical questions with pistachios actually (I lied). I'll go as far as I feel like to opening them up. If they resist enough and I lose intereest, then I say, let them go. That's their only way out, although they'll probably have died in the process.

The parallels to the U.S. torture system, though, are a little disturbing.

10. Well, they could have given you a 6-pack
which isn't as much fun as it sounds since it refers to 6 units of platelets, but I'm sure they wanted to know the "why" of the matter since something is still wrong and that could definitely affect your ability to survive.

Chances are that it's just a delayed reaction from chemo. Think positively, anyway.

As for that pistachio, once it's had the bad judgment to abandon its shell, that sucker is fair game.

11. See, and here I thought if I didn't send you a PM
the morning of surgery, I was improving your chances of not facing yet another delay! I am glad that they didn't proceed without making sure your body was ready for it. I wouldn't have been looking forward to that phone call from Mrs. Tab if they hadn't been as cautious and conscientious as they were.

As frustrating as all these delays may be, they have been for good reason and you are still here.

12. The real question is...
What about the shell without it's pistachio? Where did the pistachio go? The amount of naked pistachios does not match the number of pistachio shells in the bag. Are the naked pistachios on a quest of some kind?

Ponder that for awhile.

14. I think they've joined all those missing socks
on the surface of a planet in a parallel universe where the little green men are delighted with the nuts but wonder what in the hell the socks are for since they aren't particularly useful with tentacles.
