Dammit! You're not getting that meatball!!!!!
I have NO idea why this jumped into my head.

I was a young, single clown, just out of the Navy and returned home for a while. Dad worked second shift. Mom and I were eating macaroni with meatballs in front of the teevee, on teevee tables.

My Mom's dog, a mixed terrier who resembled the RCA Victor dog, was sitting next to me. Her name was Pepper.

I was paying attention to whatever was on teevee. Mom let's out a scream. Not a scared scream. A Mom scream .... you know what I mean.

Pepper, who had a wonderfully soft mouth, had reached up and grabbed a meatball from my bowl. It was being held gently in her mouth, not a tooth mark on it. I looked at her and she momentarily froze in mid-steal. Our eyes locked.

I took the meatball from her mouth.

I looked at it.

It seemed okay to my.

I ate it.

Mom was apoplectic.

1. Thanks for this sweet story.

I might have done the same thing, and everyone in my family (my kids included) would have been apoplectic. EXCEPT maybe my brother! And my mother would have made nothing more than an expression of disapproval or 'uck.' (My husband, now 'stranged, would have put that on his list of my moral ?depravity?)

;)

3. I used to share everthing...

with my beagle Charlie.... I'd have a bite of my sandwich while sitting in the yard - then he'd get a bite...

- and one of my goofy Mom's sayings was "you gotta eat a peck of dirt before you die"

so I'm right there with ya Stinky-man, thanks for the smile

4. In my case, it was a chicken wing
and my mother freaked out, too.

This was the mother I'd seen fish a cockroach out of her coffee in a bus station coffee shop and then drink the coffee.

5. My Mom tells the story
of how when was young she and her dog were walking along a sidewalk. She was eating an ice cream cone. She dropped it. She picked it up, let her dog lick off the dirt, then continued walking and eating her ice cream cone!

She didn't tell her mom until we were kids! :D
