Fried Green Tomato B. L. T.
We ate at LuLu's in Gulf Shores Alabama last weekend (she's Jimmy Buffet's sister) and had fried green tomatoes (the best I ever had), bought her recipe book which features BLT (fried green)

2 cups flour
2 cups buttermilk
1 tablespoon hot sauce
4 green tomatoes
6 cups peanut oil
Lulu's WOW sauce

cast iron skillet, 355 degrees. Dip sliced tomatoes in buttermilk, dredge in flour, repeat the dip and dredging one time. Fry approximately 2 minutes on each side

WOW SAUCE:

- 2 whole jalapeno peppers
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup creole mustard
1/4 cup horseradish

remove seeds from peppers and chop up fine, mix everything up and stick in fridge.

WOW, just WOW!!! Loved this stuff.

2. We got her cookbook
"Crazy Sister Cooking" is chock full of yummy recipes. Its a little pricy for a cookbook but its got a ton of stuff in it and lots of knucklehead stuff about her family.

9. Oh Inchworm
Let me plead ignorance. I'm not sure what "prepared" means but the recipe just said "horseradish."

12. I found this out making a butt of myself at grocery hehe
-Prepared comes in jars and is found at deli (near wasabi sauce)
-Horseradish root is in produce and only there in season.

I've always wanted a reason to use the actual root :D

4. LuLu's fried green tomatoes
were just awesome. Very crispy and the Wow sauce was just, Wow!! The weather was just perfect and our table was overlooking the bay; very nice visit indeed. And per her cookbook she's as crazy if not more so then her brother.

7. Argghhh!!! I miss the south!
California food is soooo boring.

I can't even find green tomatoes to buy and make these.

Did they have fried dill pickles there?

10. Fried Dill Pickles aren't in the recipe book but
a few things that are:

fried okra
mango-avocado salsa
crabmeat omelet with pepperjack grits
Potato horseradish gratin
jalapeno hushpuppies
crawfish enchilada
creola blackened shrimp quesadilla
and a whole bunch of dessert and drink recipes

The politics down here suck, but lordy we do have the food!

11. I lived in NOLA for 21 years and went to gulf shores at least once a year for a break.
I haven't been back for a while, but I am really needing a Popeye's fix and some great gulf coast food.

Crawfish enchildas and any good poboy would just slay me right now!

13. My wife
is out of town and flying back next monday morning. We'll swing by the Quarter on the way home and most likely eat at the Red Fish Grill on Bourbon which is offering a "Crawfish Festivale" menu through Mid-May. Or, as you know, there are about a thousand other places we could stop and eat. Popeye's is some awesome eating, we have one about five miles down the road. Come on down, you know the way.

14. My niece works at the Redfish. Ask if Carole is working.
It's not my favorite, but I love so many places in that town, I don't know where to start. If you can get uptown, Dick & Jenny's on Tchoupitoulas is probably my most favorite restaurant in NOLA.

Enjoy! I hope to get back there soon.

15. Thanks for that info
Redfish - Carol. I'll have to remember that. Redfish is down our list and we seldom get that far down Bourbon. My favorite (one of my favorites) is the Alpine Bistro on Chartres, very nice Po-Boys and Blackened Chicken Salad.

8. I like making these a couple of itmes every summer
I use Italian bread crumbs for the coating and olive oil to fry. But this recipe sounds great using peanut oil to fry them. I want to try it. And that Wow sauce - Fiyah!
