Oatmeal cookie nirvana!
This is the best oatmeal cookie I've ever made!

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Beths-Spicy-Oatmeal-Raisin-Cookies/Detail.aspx

I used all butter instead of part butter flavored shortening, subbed in 1 cup of whole wheat flour, and added sliced almonds that gave them a nice crisp snap. I also used Arrowhead Mills Oat Flakes Hot Cereal which didn't wilt in the slightest also giving them a nice crisp bite. Yum!

1. Sounds good!
The last few days I've been thinking about making a summer cookie, but wasn't sure what to make. I tend to only make cookies in the wintertime, but I've really been craving them. Do you make them year-round?

4. Yes, I bake year round.
Bill likes to have a muffin or quick bread packed in his lunch to have when he gets to work and cookies to have with his lunch.

It really is a delicious cookie. :hi:

5. After re-reading my OP I want to clarify something.
These are not a hard cookie. They come out chewy and crisp both. The perfect combo of both, actually. :D

7. too bad we can't have a tasting
I'll bet that C&B-ers have a dozen different prized recipes for oatmeal cookies. I just love mine, and yours sound scrumptious too!

6. The spices are similar to my recipe whose "secret ingredient' is
pumpkin pie spice. (Shhh... don't tell anyone! ;) )

For an extra-good cookie I melt dark chocolate and swirl the bottom of the cooled cookies in it, then refrigerate them upside down (i.e. chocolate up) to set the chocolate. Heaven, if I do say so myself.

Raspberries are also good in oatmeal cookies. The cookies look a little funny b/c of the blue & red streaks made by the berries, but the taste makes up for their goofy appearance.

8. Oh, that reminds me!
I did add a bit of allspice to these, too. :D

I am going to have to try your swirling method, I bet Bill would love those. Thanx! :hi:

9. You're welcome!
We are having a rare cool day here, so I might just have to bake up a batch myself. :)

10. I have a Bill Clinton's recipe for oatmeal cookies here somewhere
It was part of GFamily Circles's candidate's spouses cookie recipe "contest" back in 2008. It's really Betty Crocker's recipe, and it calls for toasting the oats before adding to the dough. It makes them taste nuttier. The recipe is here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/16/bill-clintons-cookie-reci_n_107465.html

It calls for walnuts, but no raisins. Maybe that's why this is my favorite oatmeal cookie recipe. Raisins are okay, but I prefer them without.

12. These were so good, Bill requested a re-run.
So I made them again the same way with only one slight change. I found a pouch of Sunmaid Mixed Raisins containing Thompsons, California Gold, and Red Flame...OMG! I can't stop eating these cookies! When I make cookies for his lunch, I may eat one or two through the week, but I'm eating like three of these a night for my dinner. LOL
