Three ingredient recipes....(Not including salt and pepper)
Perfect Guacamole -Every time

Two Ripe Avocados
Half a small onion chopped fine
juice of one small lime


Combine the Avocado innards with the onion and lime. Add salt to taste. Leave in a bowl on the counter for at least one hour to marry the flavors. (If you plop the pit of an avocado in the bowl with the quac...It won't turn brown as quickly)

1. Strike up the bland
sorry, but it's just no good without chiles. A piece of plastic wrap placed directly on the surface also retards browning. Chopped tomato and garlic also add levels of flavor, but aren't necessary. The chile is.

This is Minnesota guacamole. Those of us who know what the real thing is like would leave it sitting on the table after one taste.

I embrace my guac blandness and celebrate it. Funny, I love spicy food but I've always seen guac as a cooling dish to balance the heat. I do love a hot salsa and love the chilies mixed with fruit. :shrug: Go figure. As long as I don't have to hang out with Michelle Bachman...I could do Minnesota :rofl:

5. I LOVE Vanilla ....It's my favorite too.
I actually really really love French Vanilla but that Haagen Daz Honey Vanilla had me in it's grip for a while.

I don't care for vanilla scented products like soaps or lotions but give me the plain white ice cream anyday. ( I also had a thing for a while with the Costco white cake......but we won't even discuss that)

8. While I agree that it is a cooling balance
I never did care for guac until I started making it at home, and I do put a few shots of Frank's Red Hit in it...just a few to give it the bright flavor of Frank's without the heat.

My guac ends up being the avocado, chopped tomatoes, chopped green onions, salt, pepper, garlic, freshly squeezed lime juice and Frank's. It's awesome! And it's still very cooling, but it's not like I eat/make anything very spicy anyway except maybe Thai food.

I'll have to think on anything I make that has so few ingredients. Nothing comes to mind at the moment.

3. Pesto green bean-potato salad
A variation of a recipe my sister gave me:

Small red potatoes, sliced thin
Fresh green beans
Refrigerated pesto sauce

Steam the potatoes and green beans until tender. (I steam them together.) Toss with the pesto sauce. My sister's recipe also calls for linguine, but I found that the potatoes alone provide enough starches. One can also add walnuts and/or chopped, cooked pancetta bacon (which I highly recommend).

6. Including something like pesto as one of the three
ingredients doesn't quite enter into the spirit of the thing. It's kind of like a novelist resolving a plot breakdown by announcing "and then a miracle occurred".

Potatoes
Leeks or onions
Heavy cream or butter to finish.

It's still something I make nearly every week during the winter. It's gorgeous and filling and warms you up from the inside. It can be eaten chilled in summer, but I'm not overly fond of it that way, I think it lessens the flavor.

AlDente Pasta
Garlic (quite a bit)
Olive oil


Gently warm chopped garlic in the olive oil. Add Pasta and toss.


Now I know many here would say that you really must add the Parm. But it's still really, really good without it.


Or as a variation


1 can of Tuna packed in Olive Oil
Garlic
Pasta......


Warm the garlic and the tuna with the oil....Add the pasta....OMG!!!!!

16. I just finished making a batch of these with my 3 1/2 yo grandson.
And a good time was had by all. They are much better than I expected and he is just as proud of himself as he can be. He got to take Mommy and Daddy some cookies that he had made himself. We rolled them into balls and criss-crossed them with a fork dipped in sugar and baked them at 350F for about 8 minutes.

That was a recipe my daughter got from a friend when she was young, she was smug about being able to teach me how to make them. :D

It's a good recipe if you have gluten free people in the house. Not an issue for us, but I figured I'd throw it out there in case it matters to others.

Chop hearts (save liquid) and combine w/the other two & hearts' liquid.

(I realize that the marinated aspect of the artichokes may be another "and then a miracle occured" situation, but it IS a tasty salad. :) )
