A whole grain alternative to rice, pasta and oats.
This is just a basic recipe. I always add other vegetables to mine. Carrot and celery or what ever I have on hand or whatever is in season. Also you can add whatever spices you like.

Bulgar Wheat Pilaf

1T Olive Oil
1 Chopped Onion
1 tsp. of chopped garlic or 2 cloves
1 cup of bulgar wheat
1 14 1/2 oz. can of chopped tomatoes
1 3/4 cups of water or broth
1/2 tsp. salt or to taste

On medium heat heat oil. Saute onion (and any other vegetables your adding) for about 5 minutes. Add bulgar wheat and garlic and saute for 2 more minutes. Add tomatoes, water or broth, and salt. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes.

Bulgar wheat can be found in the Greek, Italian, Spanish, or Bulk areas of many grocery stores. It come in fine, medium or course. This recipe is based on course.

1. I love bulgar salad
My local health food store has always carried a small bulgar salad. It's got the bulgar plus olive oil, tahini, scallions, garlic and probably vinegar in it. They top it off with a cherry tomato.

I've never used broth to prepare the bulgar. That would make it so much better! Thanks!

One of the Near East products ... from this line:

I think it was this stuff:

It was very good, albeit tasting 'boxed'.
